2023 College Football Week 3 Winners and Losers
There isn’t much movement over in the AP Top 25 Poll following the developments of Week 3 in Division I football. However, there are a handful of movers and shakers to take note of from this past week. Not all movements have worked out for the better, though, particularly for one powerhouse program slowly losing its supposed power.
Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 college football season. Let’s briefly recap the biggest winners and losers from the action-packed Week 3 slate.

Winner: Colorado Buffaloes
Although they slipped one spot down to No. 19 in the rankings, head coach Deion Sanders and his Buffaloes remain undefeated and won a fantastic double-overtime thriller against the neighboring Colorado State Rams. Sanders’ kids continue to live up to their promise as future stars, as quarterback Shedeur (348 passing yards, four passing TDs) and cornerback Shilo (four tackles and a pick-six) got their moments to shine. The Buffs are arguably the most entertaining college football team to follow right now and we all must thank Coach Prime for this blessing.
Loser: Alabama Crimson Tide
For the first time in 128 weeks of college football action, Alabama finds itself on the outside of the AP Top 10 looking in. Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide slipped down to No. 13 following a less-than-convincing win over USF. ‘Bama scored just 17 points as the team has yet to back a real starting QB for the job, with Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner sharing reps in the passing game. On the bright side, the Tide managed to keep the Bulls in check to just a mere field goal, and it’s this defensive unit that will need to step up as the offense gets in the groove. Alabama will have a tough home stint in Week 4 as (-6.5) favorites against No. 15 Ole Miss.
Winner: Oregon Ducks
Swapping spots with Alabama, meanwhile, is Oregon, which jumped up three places to crack the top 10 of the AP Poll this week. The Ducks smacked Hawaii around to the tune of a 55-10 beatdown in Week 3, and they’re now the second-highest-scoring team in the nation averaging a staggering 58 points per game. The Pac-12 leads all Division I conferences with eight teams in the top 25 and three of them are in the Top 10, with Utah also on the bubble at No. 11 breathing down Oregon’s neck.
Loser: Tennessee Volunteers
While wins over Virginia and Austin Peay in the first two weeks of the season were expected, so too was a victory over Florida in Week 3 for Tennessee. Unfortunately, the Volunteers lost to the Gators on Saturday, 29-16, to lose a lot of the mystique that this program had carried over from the prior campaign. This also led to Florida making its debut in the AP Poll this season as the No. 25 team in the FBS. The Vols, meanwhile, have a get-right game in Week 4 against a 1-2 UTSA squad from the AAC. Tennesse is currently a heavy (-20.0) home favorite to bounce back and beat the Roadrunners in front of the Knoxville faithful.
