2023 College Football Week 5 Winners and Losers
There weren’t many significant upsets among the elite programs in Week 5, as the top seven teams in Division I stood pat in their respective slots following this weekend’s action. However, there were still massive shakeups in the bottom half of the AP Top 25 Poll to set up pivotal matchups that will undoubtedly alter the rankings come Week 6.
Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 college football season. Let’s briefly recap the biggest winners and losers from the action-packed Week 5 slate.

Winner: Kentucky Wildcats
With a convincing 33-14 victory over Florida, the Wildcats find themselves back in the Top 25, jumping up to being the No. 20 team in the nation while also knocking the Gators out of the AP Poll. Senior running back Ray Davis had an afternoon for the record books, rushing for 280 yards and scoring four offensive touchdowns. Kentucky will face the stiffest of tests in Week 6, though, as the team is currently a (+15.0) road dog against the best program in the country, none other than the Georgia Bulldogs.
Loser: Utah Utes
In each of Utah’s last three games, one team has managed to score just seven points in each of those matchups. Unfortunately for the Utes, they were on the losing end for a change as Oregon State handed its Pac-12 rival a 21-7 defeat. Utah tumbles down eight spots to No. 18 in the rankings, while the Beavers climb up to No. 15 in the nation. The Utes will get a bit of a reprieve this coming week as they take on the California Bears before back-to-back tough matchups against Top-10 rivals USC and Oregon.
Winner: Louisville Cardinals
Cracking the edge of the Top 25 in Week 6 are the Cardinals, who barely survived a 13-10 victory over the NC State Wolfpack. With a perfect 5-0 record, Louisville now takes sole possession of first place in the ACC standings, but they do still have company from their conference in the Top 25, as the likes of No. 5 North Carolina, No. 14 Florida State, and No. 19 Duke are all in the mix. The Blue Devils just took a hit this past week against Notre Dame, with Louisville now set for a crucial showdown against the No. 10 Irish this coming weekend.
Loser: LSU Tigers
Taking the deepest plunge down the Top 25 is LSU, which dropped down 10 spots to No. 23 following their 55-49 shootout of a loss to Ole Miss. The Tigers have now allowed a staggering average of 47 points per game against ranked opponents this season and are now on the verge of getting bumped out of the Top 25. Brian Kelly and the boys from Death Valley are (-6.5) road favorites to win against No. 21 Missouri in Week 6, and LSU needs a quality win over a ranked foe now more than ever.
