Florida State Seminoles vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

  • When: Saturday, October 28th, 2023. 12:00pm EST
  • Where: Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC
  • College Football Odds: FSU (-20.5) // Wake Forest (+20.5)

FSU rallied to beat No. 16 Duke 38-20 last week to improve 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the ACC, which marks the best start in each category for the Seminoles since 2014. Florida State is No. 4 in this week’s Associated Press poll. It is the eighth consecutive week FSU has been ranked in the top-5, the program’s longest streak since 2013-14 when Florida State was in the top-5 for 27 consecutive polls. The Seminoles extended their winning streak to 13 games, the longest active streak in the ACC and the 3rd-longest active streak in the country. During its streak, Florida State has outscored its opponents 544-239. FSU has scored at least 30 points in 13 straight games, the longest active streak in the nation and the 2nd-longest streak in ACC history, trailing only FSU’s 17 consecutive games from 2012-14. Florida State is the only team ranked in the top-12 in red zone offense and red zone defense. FSU’s offense ranks 6th in the country having converted 96.4 percent of its red zone opportunities into points, and the defense has held opponents to points on 69.6 percent of red zone trips to rank 12th nationally.

Since the start of the 2020 season, Wake Forest holds a 13-3 record during the month of October. Wake Forest went a perfect 4-0 during this month in 2020 and 2021. Prior to 2020, Wake Forest had not gone undefeated in the month of October since 2007. -Sophomore kicker Matthew Dennis is tied for 10th nationally in field goals made per game with 1.86. Additionally, his 13 overall field goals made is tied for 11th in the country and he leads the ACC in both categories. Wake Forest ranks in the top 25 nationally in fewest penalties, fewest penalties per game and penalty yards. The Deacs lead the ACC in all three categories and ranks in the top seven in the country in each category. Wake Forest trails the all-time series with Florida State, 9-30- 1, dating back to a 14-14 tie in 1956, but the Deacs are currently on a three-game winning streak against the Seminoles, with a chance to win four straight for the first time in this series. Last year, Wake Forest earned a 31-21 victory in Tallahassee.

2023 College Football Week 9 Pick: Wake Forest

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Kansas Jayhawks

  • When: Saturday, October 21st, 2023. 12:00pm EST
  • Where: David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KS
  • College Football Odds: Oklahoma (-9.5) // Kansas (+9.5)

Kansas again likely will be without starting QB and preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Jalon Daniels due to injury. Daniels missed the Jayhawks’ season opener and their last three games with a back injury. In his three appearances this season, Daniels was able to lead Kansas to three wins, completing an efficient 74.7% of his passes for 705 yards and five touchdown passes. But without him under center, the Jayhawks are 2-2. Jason Bean will start again. The game will serve as Kansas’ 111th Homecoming all-time, where the Jayhawks hold a 45-60-5 record and are searching for back-to-back Homecoming victories for the first time since 2004-05. Kansas enters the game after a bye week, following its second loss of the season, at the hands of Oklahoma State on Oct. 14, 39-32. Kansas’ offense is led by junior running back Devin Neal, who has rushed for 659 yards and six touchdowns on 90 carries this season. Neal’s yards per carry of 7.3 ranks fourth in power five football this season and is on pace to break the KU school record for yards per carry in a season, set by Gale Sayers.

A win on Saturday would give the Sooners just their second 8-0 start over the past 18 years (9-0 in 2021). OU started 8-0 or better four times from 2000-04 (7-0 in 2001). OU’s 13.9-point improvement from last season in opponent points per game (30.0 to 16.1) is third best among Power Five teams (Arizona — 15.9; UCLA — 14.1). OU’s 113 points allowed are its fewest over the first seven games of a season since 2009 (gave up 71). Oklahoma is 80-27-6 (.735) all-time vs. Kansas and has won 18 straight in the series. It is OU’s longest active winning streak against an opponent. The Sooners have scored at least 34 points in each of their last 14 games against Kansas. It is the longest such streak in school history against a single opponent (next longest is 13 consecutive games [current] vs. Texas Tech) and is the second-longest streak nationally (longest current) against one opponent since 1996.

2023 College Football Week 9 Pick: Kansas

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Could it be a trap game for the Buckeyes off their huge win over No. 7 Penn State last Saturday? Kyle McCord was 22 for 35 for 286 yards and the Buckeyes put up 367 total yards, a season-high against Penn State’s stingy defense. Penn State needed 58 minutes to convert a third or fourth down and didn’t get into the end zone until 29 seconds were left in the game. Penn State failed to convert on its first 15 third-down attempts. Ohio State’s defense continues to excel. Jim Knowles’ unit is fourth nationally allowing 260.2 yards per game, and it is third nationally allowing just 10.0 points per game. Buckeyes No. 1 running back TreVeyon Henderson was listed as questionable but was held out again with an injury. Good chance he plays this week. WR Marvin Harrison Jr.’s 18.24 yards per reception average is No. 1 nationally among all players who have at least 40 receptions. His 766 receiving yards and 109.4 yards per game each rank 7th nationally.

Badgers QB Braedyn Locke was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after engineering a 4th quarter comeback at Illinois in his first career start last Saturday. He completed 21-of-41 passes for 240 yards and 2 scores, both of which came in the 4th quarter to bring the Badgers back from a 21-7 hole. Coach Luke Fickell takes on OSU, his alma mater, for the second time in his head coaching career. Fickell’s Cincinnati squad lost 42-0 in Columbus on Sept. 7, 2019. Fickell, who played at OSU from 1992-96, led the Buckeyes during the 2011 season as interim head coach. The primetime matchup marks the first Big Ten night game at Camp Randall since the Badgers defeated Illinois, 45-7, to begin the 2020 season. Wisconsin has won its last 4 Big Ten night games at Camp Randall. The last loss: an overtime loss to the Buckeyes in 2016. UW is in search of its first win over a top-3 team since the Badgers topped No. 1 Ohio State in 2010 at Camp Randall.
