2022 F1 Season Recap
The 2022 F1 Season had 21 races. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won 14 of the 21. Verstappen’s dominated so thoroughly that some drivers began to complain about the setup.
Without a playoff, there was no reason for Verstappen to race at Japan, the United States, Mexico, or Brazil. But there Verstappen was, scoring victories in Japan, the U.S., and Brazil.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won 3 races to finish second on the standings. Verstappen’s fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez won 2 races to finish third.
George Russell, who has emerged as Mercedes top hope for a driver’s title, finished fourth. Carlos Sainz, who took the checkered flag at the Great Britain Grand Prix finished fifth. Lewis Hamilton finished sixth.
Top Pick to Win the 2023 F1 Season
In 2016, Ferrari sent Charles Leclerc to their drivers’ academy where he learned how to sit behind a Ferrari and move a racecar superfast. By 2019, Leclerc was throwing down for Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel.
A year later, Ferrari handed Charles the keys to their top car. No doubt, this is the year Ferrari and Leclerc expect to take Ferrari back to the championship heights the constructor expects.
Ferrari has spent too long losing first to Mercedes and then to Red Bull. Expect Leclerc to push Verstappen the entire season. At the end, the odds make Charles more playable than Max to win the driver’s championship.
Second Pick to Win the 2023 F1 Season
Leclerc’s odds are better than Max Verstappen’s, which is why Charles is the top pick. But although that’s true, it doesn’t mean Red Bull and Verstappen can’t win a third straight driver’s title.
Max is already one of the greatest driver’s in F1 history. He has a single goal, to win races. Verstappen has an uncanny ability to shut out all the nonsense and just drive. So, yeah, he can make it back-to-back-to-back titles.
Third Pick to Win the 2023 F1 Season
George Russell outdrove Lewis Hamilton last season. Don’t think for a moment Mercedes didn’t notice. Before deciding that Hamilton is untouchable, realize that Sebastian Vettel appeared untouchable as well, but Ferrari dropped Vettel for Leclerc.
George offers much better odds than his teammate. Considering he should take a forward step in 2023, if you’re looking to play a Mercedes driver, think Russell before Hamilton.
Underground Pick to Win the 2023 F1 Season
Leclerc’s teammate at Ferrari drove great in 2023. Expectations weren’t high. So when Carlos Sainz won the Great Britain Grand Prix as a +800 choice, his fans were doing backflips.
Sainz will again head into an F1 Season under the radar. It’s doubtful he wins the driver’s title. However, he’s the underdog with the best shot to upset the favorites.
Also, pay attention to Carlos in specific races. He’s terrific at fighting for podium spots and did win a checkered flag last year. So in plenty of races this season he’ll be a legit underdog play.
Third Pick to Win the 2023 F1 Season
Leclerc’s odds are better than Verstappen’s, which is why Charles is the top pick. But although that’s true, it doesn’t mean Red Bull and Verstappen can’t win a third straight driver’s title.
