Why Casper Ruud is a good bet to beat Novak Djokovic?
When odds land, Friday night or early Saturday morning, Casper Rudd is going to be a massive underdog versus Djokovic. That alone will make Ruud a decent play.
Besides odds, there are other reasons to like Ruud. In no match during the French Open did Casper Ruud go off the favorite. It sounds crazy, but Ruud was even an underdog against Holger Rune in the quarterfinals.
Also, although Ruud has played a couple of 4-set matches during the tournament at Roland-Garros, he bounced back with a 3-set victory over Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. The victory over Zverev could be a sign Ruud is peaking at the perfect time.
Why Novak Djokovic is a good bet to beat Casper Ruud?
Djokovic feels he can win the Grand Slam this season. The Grand Slam includes the Australian Open, which Novak won, the French Open, which he believes he’s about to win, Wimbledon, where he seems to win every year, and the U.S. Open, where he hasn’t been able to play because of his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
What’s interesting is that Carlos Alcaraz won the U.S. Open last year when Djoker wasn’t allowed to participate. So Novak had something to prove in the semifinal victory over Alcaraz.
Many will say Alcaraz was hobbled by a cramp. But anybody who watched the match knows Djokovic had Alcaraz in his sights from the beginning.
Novak is on a mission. The greatest men’s tennis player of all time expects to win on Sunday.
Novak Djokovic vs. Casper Ruud 2023 French Open Men’s Final Prediction
Novak Djokovic is 4-0 in head-to-head matches versus Casper Ruud. Based on that stat alone, Djokovic is the pick.
Ah, but there’s something interesting about Ruud. Casper had struggled in 2023 until the French Open.
Even early at Roland-Garros Ruud didn’t appear to have it, dropping sets against Zeppieri and Zhang in his second and third round matches. But then, Casper started putting it all together.
Ruud played his best match of the tournament in the semifinals, beating Zverev 6-3, 6-4, 6-0. It looks like Ruud is about to break out with a career defining moment. Casper also has a 12-year age advantage over Novak Djokovic because Casper is 24.
Don’t get us wrong, Djoker should win. But Ruud might be ready to take over as the world’s top player. Nothing lasts forever, and Novak Djokovic’s reign as the world’s best might be coming to an end. Casper Ruud is the pick.
