2023 Miami Grand Prix Sleeper Picks
The 2023 Formula 1 campaign starts to build momentum following an erratic schedule for its first few races. Only three races finished in the opening eight weeks, but Azerbaijan marked the first of five in six weeks. The grid returns to the United States of America for the second-event Miami Grand Prix this week. Max Verstappen is on fire and in the mood to claim his first victory in Florida. The two-time Red Bull champion leads the Drivers’ Championship race, while teammate Sergio Perez is not far off in second place.
Furthermore, there’s no guarantee that the favorites will take this one. The Miami International Autodrome is a notably new track in F1. The 20-driver roster could deliver surprising results after the 57-lap race. With that, let’s check out the top 2023 Miami Grand Prix sleeper picks.

Oscar Piastri
- 2023 Miami Grand Prix Odds: +50,000
The rookie driver competed in various junior categories and collected a commendable portfolio of wins. He is a Formula 3 champion and quickly ranked up the Formula 2 series for the 2021 season where he penned consistent performances. He won his first F2 race at the Monaco Grand Prix and finished on the podium six times to secure the championship title.
His early success led to speculation about his entry into Formula 1. Despite serving most of his racing career with the Alpine Academy since 2019, he eventually took his talent to the McLaren F1 team and races alongside English teammate Lando Norris. The Aussie driver scored four points in four Grand Prix entries. He impressed many with three Q3 appearances and a P8 in his first Formula 1 home race. Oscar is a promising driver. If he can quickly get to grips with his MCL60, he maintains his position as a solid sleeper pick.
Yuki Tsunoda
- 2023 Miami Grand Prix Odds: +100,000
Yuki Tsunoda experienced an erratic rookie campaign. He showed flashes of brilliance and speed but struggled with consistency and made major mistakes along the way. He finished the season with 32 points and placed him 14th in the Drivers’ Championship board. Tsunoda followed up his opening season with an underwhelming run. He finished with 12 points and P17. If the Japan-born driver wants to keep his seat with Red Bull’s Team B, he needs to step up and score points moving forward.
The AlphaTauri driver did well in his previous Miami Grand Prix qualifying. Yuki recorded a Q3 appearance and started in P9 for the first-ever event in Florida. Despite the P12 race result, we’ve seen him perform around the fast and technical track. He’s been slowly gaining pace this season. The 22-year-old scored his second point in Azerbaijan last week. Before that, he finished P10 at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit.
Nico Hulkenberg
- >2023 Miami Grand Prix Odds: +200,000
Hulkenberg has been a well-respected driver in the sport for a good number of seasons. He has a reputation for delivering consistent results and crash-free drives. Although he struggled to secure a full-time gig in recent seasons, he did bag a contract with Haas for 2023. Ironically, the German racing driver is paired with Kevin Magnussen. The two did clash heads several times but eventually cleared the air under the constructor.
The former Renault driver and former Aston Martin reserve currently sit at P10 with six points. He did well in the Australian GP and finished P7. Hulkenberg also outpaced teammate Magnussen on most occasions, which makes him a great sleeper pick for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix. We might just see the 35-year-old score his first Formula One podium finish in America if he plays his experience card against the front-runners.
