Expectations are once again high for Hendrick Motorsports’ golden boy Kyle Larson, who just recently became the Cup Series champion just recently back in 2021. Larson was cruising in last year’s playoffs with a win in Miami and a runner-up finish in Martinsville before settling for ninth place in the final race in Phoenix. Still, the 20-year-old is one of the most consistent drivers in the sport and is deserving of being a favorite to win it all once more this upcoming season.

Chase Elliott

It’s only fitting to see Larson’s main rival, Chase Elliott, as a co-favorite to become the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion. The son of Bill Elliott, a former stock racing great in his own right, even had more wins in 2021 (five) than Larson (three). As another consistently successful driver amongst the field of NASCAR’s younger stars, Elliott shines just as bright as his nemesis. Not to mention that he also became a Cup Series champion before Larson did a year before the latter’s crowning achievement.

Does future Hall-of-Famer Kevin Harvick still have what it takes to return to the summit of NASCAR? The man who’s currently the third-winningest driver in NASCAR history recently announced that he’ll be retiring after this season and many of his fans will be quick to jump aboard his sleeper status of winning a second-career Cup Series title. Harvick picked up back-to-back wins last August to go with seven other top-five finishes throughout the 2021 season, which goes to show that the 47-year-old living legend remains a weekly threat amongst the rest of the field.

Alex Bowman

After winning in Las Vegas in March early last year, the rest of Alex Bowman’s 2022 campaign was filled with middling results and not one other victory follow follow-up that strong start. As a member of the decorated Hendrick Motorsports team, Bowman has terrific support backing him up to get him back up to pace similar to his four-win breakout season in 2021. The Tucson native picked up a strong fourth-place showing at The Clash this past week for a decent tune-up race heading into Daytona, making Bowman another appealing sleeper candidate who could take home the Cup Series crown.

Ty Gibbs

Making his full-season Cup Series debut is 20-year-old prodigy Ty Gibbs, who enters the year as the reigning Xfinity Series champion. Gibbs, another second-generation talent whose father is former NFL head coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs, is now expected to take his dad’s Cup Series squad to the promised land. However, it often takes drivers in the top stock racing circuit several years before becoming true contenders (Larson and Elliott are both good examples), which is why Gibbs is seen as no more than a longshot to become champion in his maiden Cup Series campaign. Although, he did have a respectable average finish of 22.93 in his first 15 Cup Series races last year, including a top-10 showing in Michigan last August.
