2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds and Preview
The Fourth of July is less than a week away, which means it’s also time for the return of one of the holiday’s favorite pastimes with the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. A pair of legends of the competitive eating world headline their respective gender brackets. Is anyone capable of beating the unstoppable reigns of Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo?
Nitrobetting has betting odds even for entertainment events beyond the sporting world. This time, let’s take a closer look at the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest for both the men’s and women’s contests, as well as the respective sports betting odds for the fastest eaters in the world today.
2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Preview
Men’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds
- Joey Chestnut (-164)
- Geoffrey Esper (+1,000)
- Nick Wehry (+1,400)
- Darron Breeden (+1,800)
- James Webb (+2,200)
- Gideon Oji (+2,800)
In all but one of the last 16 installments of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, 39-year-old Joey Chestnut has emerged as the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion on the men’s side of the action. Chestnut has cemented himself as the best to ever do it in the competitive eating scene, even turning once-fabled legend Takeru Kobayashi into a mere afterthought after shattering one eating competition after another.
The closest competitor to Chestnut’s throne has been Massachusetts native Geoffrey Esper, whose claim to fame was his viral video of eating 500 Totino’s Pizza Rolls in one sitting. Esper ended up as the runner-up to Chestnut last year in Coney Island and will have his fair shares of backers as the first to beat Chestnut for the title since Matt Stonie in 2015.
Total Hot Dogs Eaten by Joey Chestnut
- Under 73.5 (-130)
- Over 73.5 (-110)
It seems ridiculous to see the over/under betting lines set at the mid-70s for Chestnut, especially since the 15-time champion wharfed down just 63 hot dogs in his title defense last year. Then again, Chestnut broke the 70-hot dog mark in the six years before 2022, even setting the new world record at the event with 76 hot dogs devoured just two years ago.
Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds
- Miki Sudo (-5,000)
- Michelle Lesco (+1,000)
- Other (+1,300)
Having even better odds to defend her title on the women’s side of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is Japanese-American sensation Miki Sudo. In 2020, Sudo surpassed Kobayashi for her seventh career win at the event and picked up her eighth title on the Coney Island boardwalk just last year.
However, there is one blemish on Sudo’s run of dominance courtesy of Michelle Lesco, who took home the women’s title in 2021 after finishing 30 ¾ dogs. Granted, the third woman to ever win the Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest didn’t have to fear the all-time great’s presence as Sudo was pregnant at the time. Nevertheless, the two should have another heated battle this upcoming Independence Day.
Total Hot Dogs Eaten by Miki Sudo
- Under 43.5 (-130)
- Over 43.5 (-110)
After eating a whopping 48½ hot dogs and setting a new world record in 2020, Sudo is certainly capable of eating several hot dogs shy of her personal best this year. On the other hand, she’s only eaten 40 or more hot dogs three times over her career with her 41 hot dogs consumed in 2017 being her next-best performance.
