Because of the strikes in Hollywood, the Emmys moved to this year, 2024. On January 15, the Emmy Awards ceremony finally happens. Below we list Emmy odds, analyze, and make picks for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Drama Series. We also analyze and make picks for Best Comedy and Best Drama.

Best Actor in a Comedy Series

Jeremy Allan White (The Bear): -1000
Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso): +500
Bill Hader (Barry): +1400
Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building): +1400
Jason Segel (Shrinking): +3300

Jason Sudeikis has dominated this category. Ted Lasso is one of the most popular comedies of all time, but the money, and the accolades, have flown to Jeremy Allan White in The Bear.

For the first time in a while, a comedy will challenge Ted for the top prize. No doubt, the actor that plays Carmen Berzatto is going to score the trophy. Jeremy Allan White ends Jason Sudeikis’ winning streak.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series

Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary): -500
Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel): +300
Christina Applegate (Dead to Me): +800
Jenna Ortega (Wednesday): +800
Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face): +2000

If a case can be made for anyone other than Quinta Brunson, the payout will be decent. Making the case, though, is difficult.

Rachel Brosnahan has won before. Christina Applegate deserves to win every year, but she’s not attracting betting dollars. Natasha Lyonne is the longest shot on the board, and the longest shot doesn’t often win Emmys.

Wednesday fever has come and gone. So Jenna Ortega isn’t likely to upset Brunson. The chalk takes home the hardware.

Best Comedy Series

Ted Lasso: -189
The Bear: +200
Abbott Elementary: +1000
Barry: +1600

Abbott Elementary and Barry don’t have much shot versus the Ted Lasso and The Bear.

Ted Lasso will be tough to beat. However, the buzz on The Bear has been deafening pretty much since the show landed. So although it wouldn’t surprise anybody if Lasso took home another Emmy, The Bear is the pick.

Best Actor in a Drama Series

Kieran Culkin (Succession): -110
Jeremy Strong (Succession): +300
Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul): +350
Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us): +800

This could be the year when the Succession actors cancel each other out. Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin were fantastic in Succession’s final season. If either won, it wouldn’t surprise.

Pedro Pascal has a better shot than the 8-to-1 odds imply. Pascal, who also plays the main character in the Disney+ show The Mandalorian, is one of the hottest actors around.

The pick, though, is Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul. Odenkirk has created one of he most memorable characters in television history. When we look back on this age of television, two shows will stand out above all others, Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. Odenkirk was in both. Saul scores the award.

Best Actress in a Drama Series

Sarah Snook (Succession): -769
Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets): +500
Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us): +1000
Kerri Russell (The Diplomat): +5000

Lynskey, Ramsey, and Russell give award worth performances. However, it’s impossible to go against Sarah Snook.

In Succession’s final season, Snooks character kept it all together. She was the linchpin that led to the finale where the kids, well, it didn’t turn out so well for them.

Snook walks out of the Peacock Theater with the Emmy.

Best Drama Series

Succession: -1250
The Last of Us: +800
The White Lotus: +1200
Better Call Saul: +2500

Better Call Saul should win. The Last of Us and The White Lotus are good shows, but they’re not on the level of Better Call Saul. Few shows in the history of television are, though.

The odds imply Saul has no shot, and it probably doesn’t. Succession’s final season was terrific. So the chalk takes another Emmy, and it’s difficult to argue against giving the award to Succession. Still, if the Emmy voters really thought about it, they’d realize that Saul has been the best show on television for the past six seasons.
