The 2024 Grammy Awards happen this Sunday. So far, the money is going to Taylor Swift, which is to be expected, Ice Spice as best new artists, and SZA. Will anyone beat Travis Kelce’s girlfriend in the top categories? Will Billie Eilish win an award for the music she added to the hit film Barbie? Best New Artist

Ice Spice is a serious favorite, but there are other contenders. The odds on Noah Kahan make that one a slight overlay because his album, Stick Season, continues to hover around the top five of the Billboard 200.

But although Kahan could win and the odds are nice, we’re going after the check with the second choice, Victoria Monet. The +500 choice got seven nominations from the Grammy Academy this year.

Those seven noms are two short of SZA’s nine. If Grammy voters decide to give Monet just one nod, it’s likely to be Best New Artist.

Best New Artist Prediction: Victoria Monet

Song of the Year

All the money is going to Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero. Taylor could sweep the major award. So it makes sense that Anti-Hero is such a major favorite.

However, there are other contenders, including SZA with Kill Bill and Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For? Both songs will give Anti-Hero a run for the money.

The pick, though, isn’t Anti-Hero, Kill Bill or What Was I Made For? Miley Cyrus offers excellent odds of 8-to-1 to upset Swift in this category. Cyrus made a comeback this year, which Grammy voters will reward. Don’t be surprised when whoever is announcing the winner of this category says Flowers.

Song of the Year Prediction:: Miley Cyrus – Flowers

Record of the Year

Olivia Rodrigo created a fantastic record. Vampire is terrific in every way. It also speaks to Rodrigo’s development as a musical artist.

Jon Batiste is always tough to beat, and Victoria Monet got a nom for On My Mama. Billie Eilish could win. Eilish is always a threat to take home a statue.

Still, it’s difficult to look past the top three choices: Anti-Hero, Kill Bill, and Flower. Again, Swift could sweep the top categories. So it’s tough to choose any other to win Record of the Year. Still, the Grammys did nominate SZA nine times. So Kill Bill is top of mind.

Record of the Year Prediction:: SZA – Kill Bill

Album of the Year

This feels like a three artist race among Taylor, Lana Del Rey, and SZA. Among the three, the album that most deserves the award is Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean BLVD. Lana Del Rey always deserves to win when she gets a nomination.

Del Rey won’t go home with the statute. Neither will SZA. Album of the Year is the Grammy that they will bestow upon Swift. To be fair, Midnight is a great album. So Taylor’s victory will be well-deserved.
