2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Favorites
Bijan Robinson
What may come as a surprise to many bettors is that a running back is the current odds-on favorite to win the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Texas juggernaut Bijan Robinson was selected by the Falcons with the eighth overall pick at the draft and a costly price for the position has its merits. For one, Robinson is a unanimous All-American in 2022 and amassed over 3,400 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns across his three years in Austin. Atlanta now has one of the most dynamic backfields in the league with Robinson joining Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Allgeier and the former sizing up to take the lead-back role en route to an OROY-worthy bid.
Bryce Young
As the No. 1. Pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, it only stands to reason that ‘Bama quarterback Bryce Young is seen as a co-favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award as well. After all, the 21-year-old gunslinger has done it all in the college ranks, winning a national title with the Tide in 2023 followed by a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign in 2021 that saw him throw for over 4,800 yards and 47 passing TDs. Young will likely be the Panthers’ starter from Week 1 onwards and he already has the right tools to become the next elite mobile QB that the NFL can’t get enough of similar to the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts.
2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Dark Horses
Will Levis
Many experts predicted that Kentucky quarterback Will Levis would join the likes of Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson as the four QBs that would be taken in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the 23-year-old slipped all the way to the 33rd-overall spot in the second round where the Titans would take a flyer on him. Levis still has to prove that he belongs on the roster during minicamp and preseason, and is still quite raw in experience. Nevertheless, incumbent Tennessee starting QB Ryan Tannehill has been on a downturn of late, giving Levis a decent shot of making a splash in his rookie year and earning his solid sleeper status to win the OROY award in the end.
Zach Charbonnet
Another running back to keep an eye on in 2023 is UCLA standout Zach Charbonnet, who heads further up the West Coast to join a spirited Seahawks squad. Seattle has had a promising yet often-injured platoon of players in the backfield and Charbonnet has all the right credentials to lead the Seahawks’ running game. In his four years in college, the former Michigan Wolverine finished with double-digit rushing TD seasons in three of those years. Carbonnet also had 1,000-yard rushing campaigns in his two full seasons in SoCal, making the shifty 6-foot-1 back another solid sleeper pick to benefit from Seattle’s well-coached offense and possibly end up taking home the OROY hardware in the process.
2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Huge Reach
Stetson Bennett
Despite winning a pair of national titles and the CFP National Championship Offensive MVP award in both of those victories, Georgia QB Stetson Bennett failed to impress NFL scouts as his age (25) and lack of mobility scared off most buyers. Then again, Bennett was drafted by the Rams in the fourth round, which could be a blessing for the experienced play-caller. Bennett could see more snaps and put his title-winning experience on display should Matthew Stafford continue to regress. Nevertheless, Bennett needs the cards to fall his way to get in actual reps, which makes him no more than an appealing longshot to take a chance on at winning the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
