2023 NFL Preseason Predictions for Every Team

By Hank Blaine

The 2023 NFL Preseason kicked off last week with the annual NFL Hall of Fame Game. On Thursday, the league kicks it up a notch with the official kick-off to NFL Preseason Week 1. Check out NFL Preseason predictions for every team in the league.

Best Ways to Safely Handicap the 2023 NFL Preseason

AFC East

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo is a veteran team that won’t require playing their starters much during the preseason. A win against Indy and losses to Pittsburgh and Chicago makes sense.

New York Jets

The Jets already have a loss to Cleveland. NYJ went 3-0 during preseason in 2022. A loss and 2 wins is the prediction for 2023.

New England Patriots

Bill Belichick isn’t a huge preseason believer, but Mac Jones must learn Bill O’Brien’s system. So we’re going 2-1.

Miami Dolphins

Mike McDaniel can’t take the chance of Tua getting a career ending concussion before the first regular season game. Pulling out a victory, though, seems doable.

AFC North

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals, like the Bills, are a veteran squad. A lot of preseason work isn’t required. However, starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. projects to play more series. So a win should happen.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore always goes undefeated during the preseason. In 2023, Lamar will want to develop a rapport with new WR1 Odell Beckham Jr.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Tomlin assesses talent during the NFL Preseason. Tomlin won’t take a chance on Kenny Pickett’s health. So we shouldn’t expect to see Pickett much.

Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson requires real game work. So the Browns should go 2-1 in the preseason.

AFC South

Tennessee Titans

DeAndre Hopkins signed with the Titans late. Ryan Tannehill and Hopkins must get on the same page. The only way to do that is to play in every preseason game.

Jacksonville Jaguars

This veteran team will take it easy during the preseason. There’s no reason to put star players like Trevor Lawrence in harms way in meaningless contests.

Houston Texans

Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud is a rookie who must get up to speed before NFL Week 1. Stroud could get a lot of playing time.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have a quarterback battle between rookie Anthony Richardson and veteran Gardner Minshew. Sam Ehlinger could end up part the QB battle as well. The emphasis won’t be on winning preseason games.

AFC West

Denver Broncos

Denver should win a preseason game. The prediction is that Sean Payton wants to assess all of his players. So Payton will give Russell Wilson more series than usual, but it will be to assess where Russ requires improvement.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas won all 4 of their preseason games last season. We should expect the excellent preseason record to continue. Josh McDaniels wants his team to gel. So Jimmy G., if he’s healthy, will get playing time.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs will win a preseason game, but that’s it. Andy Reid knows he must get his starting LT, Donovan Smith, and Patrick Mahomes on the same page, but other than that, the defending Super Bowl champs are set.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Bolts didn’t win a preseason game in 2022. They won’t win a preseason game in 2023. Head Coach Brandon Staley uses the preseason to assess talent.

NFC East

New York Giants

Brian Daboll’s squad should have a decent preseason. Saquon Barkley didn’t get the deal he wanted but he signed. So now that everything is copasetic, the G-Men should perform well as a team.

Dallas Cowboys

The Boys went 2-1 in the preseason last year but 1 of the wins came by a single point. A 1-2 preseason record is likely.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia went 1-2 in the preseason in 2022. It worked out well. There is no reason to change. The Eagles will approach this preseason the way they approached last preseason.

Washington Commanders

Eric Bienemy must get the offense up to speed regarding his intricate playbook. Sam Howell will get plenty of runs in this year’s preseason.

NFC North

Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins has to get on the same page as rookie Jordan Addison and new addition N’Keal Harry, which will lead to 2 preseason victories.

Chicago Bears

Justin Fields is comfortable in the offense. So JF won’t see the field much. Also, the Bears defense isn’t good. Even in the preseason it won’t be good. So a single victory makes sense.

Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love has a long way to go to be a legit NFL starting quarterback. He could surprise in the regular season. If so, it will because he had a great preseason.

Detroit Lions

No matter if Detroit sits Jared Goff and other stars on offense like Amon-Ra St. Brown, the system the Lion run on offense will lead to a pair of preseason victories.

NFC South

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr will want to develop a rapport with Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. That should lead to at least a couple of NFL Preseason victories. The Saints could go 3-0.

Atlanta Falcons

Top draft pick Bijan Robinson is a running back. Running backs like Robinson don’t require as much preseason work as quarterbacks and wide receivers. So Bijan may not tote the pigskin as much as many believe he will.

Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young will get plenty of preseason game reps. Young has made mistakes during training camp. Bryce will make mistakes in the preseason. Still, in most preseason games, he will be the most talented player on the field.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield should get some playing time. However, the Bucs are a veteran squad overall. So Baker’s extra playing time won’t lead to more than a victory.

NFC West

San Francisco 49ers

Kyle Shanahan wants to start Brock Purdy. However, Shanny must assess Trey Lance and Sam Darnold. Who is the backup? We have to assume Sam, Trey, and Brock play well. SF goes 3-0 during the preseason, even though winning won’t be Shanahan’s goal.

Seattle Seahawks

Pete Carroll doesn’t push the envelope during preseason. It’s all about getting players on the same page and assessing talent. Seattle went 0-3 last season and should go 0-3 this season.

Arizona Cardinals

Kyle Murray may not play this season. So Kyler for sure won’t play in the preseason, which means the Cards will want to protect likely NFL Week 1 starter Colt McCoy.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams offensive line is a disaster, but backup QB Brett Rypien is decent. So the Rams will win 2-of-3.
