Detroit Lions vs. Kansas City Chiefs

• When: Thursday, September 7th, 2023. 8:20pm EST.
• Where: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO
• NFL Odds: Detroit Lions (+6.5) // Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)

Detroit heads to Kansas City a close to 7-point underdog. Chris Jones is holding out for a better contract and Patrick Mahomes must play with Donovan Smith as his left tackle.

Both changes will affect KC in this game. Jared Goff and the Lions cover.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons

• Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
• NFL Odds: Carolina Panthers (+3) // Atlanta Falcons (-3)

The Panthers offensive line has the look of a disaster unit. Also, Atlanta’s defense will be much improved and the offense should boast one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL with Bijan Robinson toting the pigskin.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Cleveland Browns Stadium, Cleveland, OH
• NFL Odds: Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5) // Cleveland Browns (+2.5)

Joe Burrow returned to practice last week and starting slinging it all over the field. Joe Cool should be okay because left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. can almost play Myles Garrett 1-on-1 with success. The jury is out on Deshaun Watson and Cleveland’s offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
• NFL Odds: Jacksonville Jaguars (-3.5) // Indianapolis Colts (+3.5)

Anthony Richardson has a tough first game. The Colts rookie quarterback goes up against what should be one of the best defenses in the league.

On the other side, Trevor Lawrence and the Jags’ offense is ready to take the next step. Jacksonville wins this by at least 7.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
• NFL Odds: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+6.5) // Minnesota Vikings (-6.5)

Close to 70% of handicappers are feeling the Vikings. Backing Minnesota at -6.5, though, may not be a good bet.

Baker Mayfield will have success running the Tampa offense. Also, Minnesota’s defense won’t play well.

Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints

• Where: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, LA
• NFL Odds: Tennessee Titans (+3.5) // New Orleans Saints (-3.5)

New Orleans should send one of the top quarterback and wide receiver duos in the league to the field. Michael Thomas and Derek Carr have already developed a great rapport.

Chris Olave is part of the mix. The Titans, who had the worst pass defense in the league last season, won’t double either one of the Saints’ excellent receivers. Saints roll.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh, PA
• NFL Odds: San Francisco 49es (-2.5) // Pittsburgh Steelers (+2.5)

Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Commanders

• Where: FedExField, Landover, MD
• NFL Odds: Arizona Cardinals (+6) // Washington Commanders (-6)

Arizona is in some trouble. Cardinals quarterbacks Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune, AZ may play both, face the best defensive line in the NFL. Zona falls by much more than 6.

Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD
• NFL Odds: Houston Texans (+95) // Baltimore Ravens (-9.5)

Houston will play well in this, but that doesn’t mean they keep the game to within the spread line. -9.5 feels like a lot of points. It’s not considering the Ravens will have a better offense in 2023 than 2022 and the defense rocked it last season.

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 4:25pm EST.
• Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
• NFL Odds: Green Bay Packers (+2.5) // Chicago Bears (-2.5)

Both teams should move the football and score points. Chicago has an edge because they get their rivals at Soldier Field. But Green Bay has the better defense. Taking the points makes sense.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Denver Broncos

• Where: Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, CO
• NFL Odds: Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) // Denver Broncos (-3.5)

Sean Payton hasn't coached a regular season NFL game in a long time. Still, it’s Sean Payton. So we should expect the Broncos to be much improved from last season. Denver could make a statement, blowing out their rivals in the first game of the season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots

• When: Sunday, September 10th, 2023. 4:25pm EST.
• Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA
• NFL Odds: Philadelphia Eagles (-4) vs. New England Patriots (+4)

This is a tough game to handicap, which might be why although so many believe the Eagles cover, money hasn’t landed on Philly to push them to -4.5 instead of -4.

The Patriots could surprise. New England’s defense will be good. If Bill O’Brien gets the offense to click, who knows? Pats are the pick to cover.

Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers

• Where: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA
• NFL Odds: Miami Dolphins (+2.5) // Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5)

The line is under 3, which means oddsmakers believe that, overall, Miami is the better team. The Bolts have an edge because this is at SoFi, but the Fins’ offense could be much better if Tua stays healthy. Also, Miami’s defense will be on par with Los Angeles’. Taking the points makes sense.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

• Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
• NFL Odds: Dallas Cowboys (-3.5) // New York Giants (+3.5)

Dallas didn’t prove they were better than the Giants in 2022. The two teams are almost exactly the same from last season. So it’s difficult to understand why the Giants are +3.5 dogs at home versus a rival. NYG gets the nod.

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets

• When: Monday, September 11th, 2023. 8:15pm EST.
• Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
• NFL Odds: Buffalo Bills (-2.5) // New York Jets (+2.5)

When handicapping this game, NFL bettors are placing too much emphasis on Aaron Rodgers and the Jets’ offense. Josh Allena and the Bills’ D struggled big time against the Jets’ defense last season. This happens on NYJ’s field. Since Rodgers to Wilson will be effective on Monday night, we must assume NYJ gets the cover victory.
