2023 Sony Open in Hawaii Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

The PGA TOUR wraps up its two-week stretch in the Aloha State with another installment of the Sony Open in Hawaii. This is the first tournament of the year with a massive field since The RSM Classic in late November, which means there’ll be plenty of sleeper options this week who could end up taking home the big kahuna at the Waialae Country Club.

Nitrobetting is here to help turn your golf bets from bogeys to birdies. This time, let’s take a closer look at the three best sleeper candidates to keep tabs on at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii, as well as their corresponding odds to win the latest installment of the annual tournament held in Honolulu.

Keith Mitchell

  • 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii Odds: +3,300

It’s been nearly two months since Keith Mitchell secured a solid T9 finish at the Houston Open for his first and only top-10 finish of the season thus far. However, the Chattanooga native will welcome another visit to Honolulu, having finished in the top 25 of the Sony Open in Hawaii in four of five career trips. Mitchell even finished with a new personal best of a T7 finish in last year’s event, making him a decent sleeper pick to win his first PGA TOUR event since March 2019.

J.J. Spaun

  • 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii Odds: +4,000

After five underwhelming trips to Honolulu, perhaps this is the year that J.J. Spaun finally breaks through in the Sony Open. The 32-year-old out of San Diego State is well in the prime of his career, recently picking up his maiden PGA TOUR victory at the Valero Texas Open last April. Not only that, but Spaun also has a streak of three straight top-15 finishes to date. This was capped off with a spectacular T5 showing at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui just last week to further build his case as a viable dark horse pick to take home this week’s title.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout

  • 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii Odds: +4,500

In his Sony Open debut last year, Christiaan Bezuidenhout had a strong T17 finish before rounding out the previous season on a tear. The South African standout capped off his strong 2022 campaign with a pair of top fives in tournaments held in his home country over in the Sunshine Tour as well. While Bezuidenhout’s performances on the PGA TOUR level this 2022-23 season haven’t been as consistent as desired, his spectacular showings on the Sunshine and European Tour levels are enough to warrant decent sleeper value this week.
