Favorites to Win the 2023 Wimbledon Women’s Singles Tournament

Iga Swiatek

With three victories over her last five Grand Slam appearances, it’s only fitting that World No 1 Iga Swiatek is the odds-on favorite to keep her winning ways going in London with her first-ever Wimbledon singles title this year. On the other hand, the 22-year-old Polish powerhouse hasn’t been her usual dominant self on grass with just five matches won in three trips to Wimby. Nonetheless, Swiatek, who’s been at the top of the leaderboards since the start of April last year, has had quite the reign over the WTA Tour and remains the main femme fatale to beat in the entire scene.

Aryna Sabalenka

It’s been a monumental 2023 season for Aryna Sabalenka, who captured her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and nearly went back-to-back with a strong semifinal showing at Roland Garros. The 25-year-old Belarussian has blossomed into quite the force in the WTA Tour, even winning the Madrid Open and making the finals at Indian Wells earlier this year to cement herself as the World No. 2 behind Swiatek. Although Sabalenka was banned from last year’s edition of Wimby due to Belarus’ ties with Russia in the ongoing war against Ukraine, her semifinal performance in 2021 is enough of a reason to keep her as a co-favorite in London this time around.

Dark Horses to Win the 2023 Wimbledon Women’s Singles Tournament

Paula Badosa

With back-to-back fourth-round finishes at Wimbledon, Paula Badosa throws her name into the mix of compelling sleeper picks who could go all the way in London in July. The young Spanish sensation hasn’t won a WTA 1000 event or better since her victory at Indian Wells in 2021 but has remained a tough out for as long as she’s healthy. Badosa did miss this year’s Aussie and French Opens due to injuries, and it’s her return to the Grand Slam spotlight this coming week that should motivate her to have a triumphant return on one of the grandest stages on the calendar.

Zheng Qinwen

China’s rising tennis prospect Zheng Qinwen had a relatively terrific Wimbledon debut last season by reaching the third round with an upset of Sloane Stephens in the opening round before falling to eventual champion Elena Rybakina. The 20-year-old may still be in search of her first non-Challenger WTA Tour victory, but her rise to the World No. 19 ranking in May and sustaining her top-25 position to date is still a promising sign. In turn, Zheng is one intriguing sleeper pick to win the 2023 Wimbledon ladies’ singles title despite not having a significant win as a pro just yet.

Huge Reach to Win the 2023 Wimbledon Women’s Singles Tournament

Jule Niemeier

As one of eight quarterfinalists in last year’s installment of Wimbledon, one would assume that Germany’s Jule Niemeier to be another dark horse pick to do even better in her return to the All England Club. However, the 23-year-old Dortmund native failed to capitalize on her magical run at Wimby. After securing a career-best World No. 61 ranking last November, Niemeier has since slipped back to near irrelevance down to World No. 120 heading into Wimby. That being said, Niemeier is but a longshot at winning the ladies’ singles crown in Wimbledon but still possesses some upset potential given how well she performed on the grass courts of AELTC the last time out.
