2023 Wyndham Championship Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

There’s only one regular-season tournament left before the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season. This means this is the last time that golfers on the fringes of the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings can qualify for the long-awaited FedEx St. Jude Championship final playoff event. Who are this week’s dark horses worth keeping an eye on at the 2023 edition of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro?

Nitrobetting is here to help turn your golf bets from bogeys to birdies. This time, let’s take a closer look at the three best sleeper candidates to keep tabs on at the 2023 Wyndham Championship and their corresponding odds to win the latest installment of the annual tournament held at the Sedgefield Country Club.

Adam Scott

  • 2023 Wyndham Championship Odds: +3,900

Apart from a quick, hot stretch from the start of May to early June, former Masters champion Adam Scott hasn’t been in terrific shape for much of the season. The 43-year-old Aussie veteran currently sits at 81st in the FedExCup standings, which means he’ll be eager to put on a great performance this week with his streak of making the PGA TOUR playoff every season on the line. Scott finished tied as the runner-up in Sedgefield in 2021 and has a wealth of experience to back up his claim as a superb sleeper pick to win it all this week.

Billy Horschel

  • 2023 Wyndham Championship Odds: +4,900

Although the PGA TOUR playoff is out of the question for Billy Horschel, the 36-year-old Florida native is still entering this week’s tournament fresh off a solid T13 finish at the 3M Open. He returns to Sedgefield having gone 6-for-6 on the course with four top-11 finishes, which bodes well for his sleeper status this week as well. Horschel has been known to pull off surprising victories like his win at The Memorial last season and the WGC Match Play event in 2021, so we wouldn’t be too shocked if he finishes atop the leaderboards of the Wyndham Championship as his latest conquest.

Akshay Bhatia

  • 2023 Wyndham Championship Odds: +5,900

One name that has yet to be featured in our weekly golf column here is 21-year-old prodigy Akshay Bhatia, who had just popped his PGA TOUR cherry with a triumphant win at last week’s Barracuda Championship. The young prospect out of Wake Forest knows how to pick his fights on the TOUR, finishing solo fourth in the Puerto Rico Open in March and solo second at the Mexico Open a month after – both tournaments featuring a relatively weaker field. The Wyndham Championship doesn’t have a lot of top-20 competition showing up, which is why Bhatia is another attractive sleeper candidate who could pull off back-to-back wins to make his presence even more felt in the next PGA TOUR campaign.
