2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Recap

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans format is fourball or best ball in the second and fourth rounds and foursome or alternate shot in the first and third rounds.

Good friends Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay were perfect when maximizing their efforts via the format, scoring a 259 total -29. Sam Burns and Billy Horschel were runners-up by 2 strokes.

In 2021, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith scored a 268 -20 and beat Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a playoff.

2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Top Pick

32-year-old Max Homa hasn’t played well in his last couple of tournaments, the RBC Heritage and the Masters, but before that he was hitting the ball great. Homa won the Farmers Insurance Open, finished second at the Genesis Invitational, and finished sixth at The Players Championship.

Collin Morikawa finished thirteenth at TPC-Sawgrass and tenth at the Masters. Morikawa has yet to his stride this season. Paired with Homa, Collin should pick it up in New Orleans. This pair has the look of a winner.

2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Second Pick

No doubt, Cantlay and Scheffler are going to be difficult to beat. The pairing played excellent in this last year. In 2023, both are killing it on the course.

Scheffler, the world’s second ranked golfer, hasn’t finished worse than twelfth in 10-of-11 tournaments. Scottie won the WM Phoenix Open and The Players Championship.

Cantlay, the world’s fourth ranked golfer, finished third at the Genesis, fourth at the Arnold Palmer, fourteenth at the Masters, and third at the RBC Heritage.

The only reason the defending champs aren’t this year’s top pick is because of the low odds. If the odds were higher, we’d be all over the duo.

2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Third Pick

After finishing sixth at the Valspar, Sam Burns’ form took a hit with a twenty-ninth place finish at the Masters. Burns picked it up at the RBC Heritage, finishing a decent fifteenth.

Billy Horschel has missed the cut in three of his last four. At the Masters, the one tournament in his last four where he didn’t miss the cut, Horschel finished fifty-second.

But although neither Burns nor Horschel are playing great golf, they finished 2 strokes behind Cantlay and Scheffler last year. So we must give them a shot.

2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Underdog Pick

Taylor Montgomery is playing well enough to carry this team. Montgomery missed the cut at the RBC Heritage.

But before the missed cut, Montgomery finished a decent twenty-second at the Valero Texas Open. Earlier in the season, Taylor finished fifth at the American Express.

Kitayama has missed the cut in 4-of-5. But Kurt won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. A return to the Arnold Palmer winning form makes this pairing tough. If you believe, the odds are decent enough to warrant a small play.
