The 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans’ origins date back to 1938 and has been an annual fixture on the PGA TOUR calendar since 1958. It is only one of two team-play tournaments in a given season along with the QBE Shootout in December. But unlike its counterpart, the Zurich Classic is the only team-play event that still awards FedExCup points for the golfers to improve their standings on the season ladder.
A huge prize purse worth $8.6 million is at stake this week in Avondale. The winner of this year’s event will take home close to $2.5 million in winnings, with each payout evenly split between the two competitors in a given team.
