There are not lines

Top Pick to Win the 2024 Australian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is an overlay at -550. That’s how dominant he has been. In Bahrain, Verstappen beat fellow Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez by over 22 seconds.

Third place driver Carlos Saenz lost by over 25 seconds. And fourth place driver Charles Leclerc lost by close to 40 seconds. By the time Leclerc crossed the finish line, Verstappen had already popped the cork off the bottle of champagne and was planning on the five star restaurant where he was going to eat.

That’s how dominant the top driver and constructor in Formula 1 has been the past three seasons. So at -550, don’t worry about overlay or underlay. Call it easy money.

Second Pick to Win the 2024 Australian Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc cut Verstappen’s time difference from 40 seconds in Bahrain to 18 seconds at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Leclerc’s finish time suggests he has the best shot of closing the gap between Verstappen and Perez.

Ferrari could be in line to make a midseason run at the champ. Right now, Verstappen and Red Bull are dominating, but Ferrari might get something going. In any case, it’s early, which is why Verstappen remains the pick. But if Leclerc makes a decent run to finish second to Max by say 15 seconds or less, we may not have to switch to banking on the top 3 in the next F1 race.

Third Pick to Win the 2024 Australian Grand Prix

Sergio Perez finished less than 14 seconds behind his teammate. In 2023, Perez won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. So it makes sense that he would finish in the top three.

In this week’s event, Perez didn’t qualify with a time and had to start from the pit lane. So for all intents and purposes, it was meaningless for him to race.

Don’t expect similar issues, which means Perez should clock a top five finish if not cross the line in second behind Max Verstappen again. In any case, backing Sergio Perez provides decent odds since he’s the lone driver who has proven to be capable of beating Verstappen in the past two seasons.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2024 Australian Grand Prix

McLaren’s drivers are finishing okay. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri clocked top ten finishes in Saudi Arabia.

Norris finish thirteenth in this last season. He for sure could drive well enough for a top four or top three finish. Make sure the odds or fair if you want to play the McLaren that way. The odds reflect his true chances of winning the race. So if you want to take a chance, you are getting fair odds.
