2024 College Football National Championship Odds

By Jeff Stinger

The last two FBS national titles have gone to the Georgia Bulldogs, who also remain favorites in defending their title reign this upcoming 2023 college football season. No program has been able to pull off a three-peat since Yale did, so way back in the late 1800s, and there are a lot of promising teams ready to seize the throne from the Bulldogs.

Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 NCAA Football season. This time, let’s break down several teams that are seen as favorites, sleepers, and longshots to win the 2023 college football season’s national title and their corresponding odds of becoming the next national champion.

Favorites to Win the 2024 College Football National Championship

Georgie Bulldogs

As the reigning two-time national champions, Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs are understandably the odds-on favorites to win their third national title this upcoming season. Although a lot of key players from last year’s title-winning squad have moved on to the pros, Georgia has been able to reload with stellar prospects already. The offense is the biggest concern, but Carson Beck appears primed to start under center, with incoming receivers Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas ready to make a name for themselves as well. As arguably the best tight end in college football, Brock Bowers should also help ease Beck into the starting QB role and keep Georgia as an elite program on both sides of the ball.

Alabama Crimson Tide

It should come as no surprise to see the Crimson Tide as co-favorites to win their second national title in four years. Nick Saban still has the decorated Alabama program in the thick of the national title hunt as the Bulldogs’ top opposition even in SEC play. There’s going to be an intriguing QB battle between Jalen Milroe, Tyler Buchner, and Ty Simpson, but ‘Bama still has a top-10 defensive unit to keep the team rolling while the offense finds its footing. The Tide have only failed to secure a College Football Playoff berth once over the last six seasons and it’s Saban’s leadership over any incoming talent that keeps ‘Bama a strong favorite to reclaim its spot atop the college football mountain.

Dark Horses to Win the 2024 College Football National Championship

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The best program out of the independents has seen better days, as second-year head coach Brian Freeman looks to turn Notre Dame into a title contender once more. The team is getting a huge boost at QB with the arrival of Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman, who’s already amassed nearly 13,000 passing yards and 110 passing touchdowns in five seasons with the Deacons. If the Fighting Irish come out on top of their blockbuster matchups against USC, Ohio State, and Clemson this season, they could very well reward their backers a nice payday as a fantastic sleeper pick to win the 2023 Division I title.

Washington Huskies

Another strong sleeper candidate this season is Washington, which finished with an 11-2 record in 2022 and is returning this season with most of its core intact. The Huskies have a star in the making in quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who led a top-ranked passing offense in the nation with an average of 369.8 yards per game. Washington also ranked eighth overall with an average of 39.8 points scored per game, and it’s this prolific offensive attack that makes the Huskies a compelling dark horse pick to not just win a crowded Pac-12 pack, but also their first national championship since 1991.

Huge Reach to Win the 2024 College Football National Championship

Colorado Buffaloes

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Colorado’s camp with the arrival of NFL Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders as the team’s new head coach. Sanders’ name value alone garnered the Buffaloes several prized recruits on Signing Day as he looks to turn the program that’s only made three Bowl appearances (all losses) since 2006. However, Colorado has an uphill battle in the Pac-12 considering the likes of USC, Oregon, Utah, and aforementioned Washington all being proven contenders. Thus, the Buffaloes can still be regarded as mere longshots to win the national title in Primetime’s head-coaching debut campaign.
