The odds are crazy low. Like Max Verstappen in F1 type low, but what can we do? Scottie Scheffler is a couple of shots away from having won the Texas Children’s Houston Open, and Scottie was using that tournament as a warmup for the Masters run.
At +360 and against this field, Scottie might be an overlay. He’s shooting as well as any golfer has in, well, the last time Scheffler dominated. So Scottie gets the nod, even though the odds are lower to win this week than they were last week.
2024 RBC Heritage Second Pick
Xander Schauffele has leapfrogged Jon Rahm to settle in as the world’s third-best golfer after Scheffler and Rory McIlroy even though he has yet to win a tournament. The reason? Schauffele does what’s required to finish in the top ten.
He knew he had no shot of catching Scheffler on Sunday at Augusta National. So Xander played it safe, which he should have done under the circumstances. If Schauffele has the lead over Scottie going into this Sunday, he’ll go for the win, but if not, he’ll lay back and try to finish as high up the food chain as possible, which is why the best we can do is pick him second.
2024 RBC Heritage Third Pick
If Scheffler wasn’t having the year he has had so far, we’d all be talking about Ludvig Aberg. Aberg finished second to Scheffler at Augusta National after shooting a 73-69-70-69 -7.
Aberg will catch up to Scheffler in one of these tournaments. It could be the RBC Heritage. So at the odds, Ludvig is worth a look if you believe Scottie bounces after the awesome Masters performance.
2024 RBC Heritage Underdog Pick
Throw out the +4 score at Augusta. Concentrate on the fact that Matt Fitzpatrick finished in the top 25. If we do that, the RBC Heritage defending champion has a real shot to get it done this week.
Matt Fitzpatrick shot an incredible -18 at last year’s RBC Heritage. Fitz scored a 66 Round 1 and a 63 in the third round. Anything close to that could put him in the running for a second straight title even if Scheffler is dominating because a 63 is as good as it gets. Consider for sure.
