2024 Valero Texas Open Top Pick

Hideki Matsuyama shot a decent -7 at last year’s Valero Texas Open. The -7 was good enough for a tied fifteenth.

Although Hideki, like most top tier golfers teeing off at the Valero this week, will be testing shots to see what may work at Augusta, he could play enough to secure the top spot.

Matsuyama offers much better odds than Rory McIlroy and unlike Rory, Hideki has a victory this year at the Genesis Invitational. Matsuyama is also in excellent form with a twelfth at the Arnold Palmer and a sixth at The Players Championship.

2024 Valero Texas Open Second Pick

Collin Morikawa didn’t tee off at the 2023 Valero Texas Open. The reason he shows up in this year’s tournament is because he hasn’t been hitting the ball well, missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer and finishing a tied forty-fifth at the The Players Championship.

For sure, if Collin is on his game, Morikawa can win this. Unlike Matsuyama, who can afford to take chances to see what might stick in Georgia next week, Morikawa must get it right at Valero or he will have no shot at Augusta. So expect an all out effort that may lead to a first place finish.

2024 Valero Texas Open Third Pick

If we throw out The Players Championship, Russell Henley would be a +2000 choice to win the Valero Texas Open. First, these are the type of tournaments where Henley excels.

Second, Henley finished a tied fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational two tournaments back. If Henley reverts to that form, and because many will be saving their best for next week, Russell is another that could get it done.

2024 Valero Texas Open Underdog Pick

It’s tough to disagree with the odds because Rickie Fowler hasn’t posted a finish better than a tied thirty-fifth this PGA Season. However, like Henley, Fowler often does well in these second tier tournaments.

Rickie showed signs of life in the last, The Players Championship. Although a 74 Round 2, and a disastrous 76 in the third round ended any chances of finishing in the top 50, Fowler did shoot a 69 second round and a decent 71 fourth round. If Rickie is consistent, he’ll make the +6000 overlay odds. Check out Rickie Fowler if you’re looking to back a massive dog.
