McIlroy can win, but the odds on Rory are too low for us to take a bite. Instead, we’ll back Xander Schauffele as the top pick.
Schauffele, the world’s fourth ranked golfer, broke a string of three top 10 finishes, including a second at The Players Championship and an eighth at the Masters, by finishing eighteenth at the RBC Heritage.
Xander, no doubt, will bounce back with a top 10 finish on Sunday. That’s a good enough reason to make Schauffele the top play.
2024 Wells Fargo Championship Second Pick
Wyndham Clark has climbed to the world’s third ranked golfer. One of the reasons is because although he missed the cut at the Masters, Clark finished second at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship.
Clark also finished third at the RBC Heritage, where he shot a 66-66-65 final three rounds. Wyndham won this tournament in 2023. So, for sure, at the +1800 odds, he’s worth a look.
2024 Wells Fargo Championship Third Pick
Again, Rory can win this. But McIlroy’s best finish in his last three tournaments played, not counting the Zurich Classic, which is a team event, was a third at the Valero Texas Open.
McIlroy finished twenty-second at Augusta. Then he finished thirty-third at the RBC Heritage. At the +750 odds, Rory is a play against for the top spot.
2024 Wells Fargo Championship Underdog Pick
Earlier in the season, Akshay Bhatia missed four cuts in five tournaments. He blew it at The Players, the Cognizant Classic, and the WM Phoenix Open.
Since the implosion, though, Akshay’s been playing great golf. He finished eleventh at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, won the Valero Texas Open, finished thirty-fifth at The Masters, and finished eighteenth at the RBC Heritage. Bhatia can get it done at massive odds.
