Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?
On one hand, the San Francisco 49ers’ offense was firing on all cylinders during their 2021 season debut, resulting in a 41-33 victory over the Detroit Lions. On the other hand, they gave the Lions plenty of chances to tie the game late and see their 28-point third-quarter lead evaporate almost immediately.
A win is a win, though, and the Niners held on after several furious Detroit rallies led by a former NFC West rival quarterback Jared Goff. San Francisco’s own starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, was productive in his own right, going 17-of-25 for 314 passing yards and a touchdown. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle combined for 13 catches, 197 receiving yards, and a trip to the end zone, displaying San Fran’s passing attack at its peak.
Unfortunately, starting running back Raheem Mostert suffered a significant injury that game, which will likely mean that the Niners will go back to the air more often against the stout Eagles defense this coming weekend.
Why Bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?
One of the biggest shockers from Week 1 is the Philadelphia Eagles’ utter domination on the road against the Atlanta Falcons. Philadelphia handily won their Week 1 contest, 32-6, holding the now Julio-Jones-less Falcons offense to just a pair of field goals.
Although the Eagles’ defense didn’t generate a single turnover, they didn’t break at all and still managed to pressure Atlanta QB Matt Ryan all afternoon long, with the former league MVP finishing with just 164 yards on 21-of-35 passing whilst also getting sacked three times.
On the other side of the coin, Philly’s second-year signal-caller, Jalen Hurts, appears ready to take the next big step as a true starting NFL quarterback. Hurts threw for 264 passing yards and three scores and added 62 rushing yards on seven carries as well. As it stands, the Eagles have a well-coached and balanced roster that could give the Niners all sorts of fits in Week 2.
49ers vs. Eagles Betting Trends
- The 49ers are 8-3 in their last 11 regular-season road games (7-4 ATS).
- The Niners are 3-4 in their last seven games against NFC East opponents (2-6 ATS).
- The totals have gone over in four of the Niners’ last six games in general.
- The Eagles went 3-4-1 at home last season (5-3 ATS).
- The Eagles are 7-2 against San Francisco since 2005 (8-1 ATS).
- The totals have gone under in each of the Eagles’ last three meetings against the Niners.
49ers vs. Eagles Expert Betting Predictions
Experts and oddsmakers alike are still high on the Niners as the favorite to win this Week 2 showdown seeing that Kyle Shanahan’s crew was just able to ring up a huge score, which is not often the case for the team. However, history also has it that Philly has been able to hang with San Fran in their rare regular-season matchups. Throw in the Eagles’ morale-boosting victory on opening week and an upset by the home team could easily be at hand just the same.
