Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?
Everything is going as planned for the San Francisco 49ers, who took care of business on the road en route to a convincing 30-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. San Francisco entered the new season as a heavy favorite to win Super Bowl LVII and the team certainly played the part as a formidable contender for the Lombardi.
Brock Purdy looked sharp under center coming back from a scary elbow injury suffered in the NFC Championship game, as Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 220 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns. All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey also didn’t lose a step, finishing with 152 rushing yards (the most among all RBs in Week 1) capped off with a blazing 65-yard TD run.
On the other side of the ball, the 49ers’ defense also appeared impenetrable, holding Pittsburgh to just 239 yards of offense (41 rushing yards) to go with five sacks and three forced turnovers. Given the recent history between the Niners and the Rams, it stands to reason that the former is an overwhelming favorite odds-wise to beat the latter this Sunday.
Why Bet on the Los Angeles Rams?
To the surprise of many, the Los Angeles Rams looked more like their Super Bowl-winning form in 2021 than last year’s disappointing squad. Los Angeles coasted to a 30-13 road victory in Week 1 over the Seattle Seahawks, and it’s not the usual names that we’ve come to know in the recent past who stepped up for LA.
Without star wide receiver Cooper Kupp in the lineup, Matthew Stafford received plenty of support from his young receiving corps. Rookie wideout Puka Nacua and former second-round draft pick Tutu Atwell each put up 119 receiving yards against a competent Seattle secondary, with Stafford finishing with 334 passing yards. Los Angeles’ running game seems to have also vastly improved from last season, with Kyren Williams and Cam Akers scoring all three of the team’s offensive touchdowns in the red zone.
The Rams’ defense will be put to a real test this week as Seattle’s slow start of 180 offensive yards in the season opener might just be a sign that the Seahawks couldn’t keep up with the Rams’ intensity. LA’s defense only came up with two sacks and failed to generate a takeaway in Week 1 and this will not do against a 49ers team that’s had the Rams’ number for the last half-decade or so during the regular season.
49ers vs. Rams Betting Trends
- San Francisco is on a five-game road winning streak in the regular season (4-1 ATS).
- The Niners have also won eight straight regular-season contests against LA (7-1 ATS).
- The totals went under in four of the last six meetings against these two teams.
- LA went 4-5 at home last season (SU/ATS).
- The Rams are 4-2 in the last six games as underdogs at home (5-1 ATS).
- The totals went over in four of the last five Rams home games.
49ers vs. Rams Expert Betting Predictions
As tempting as it is to side with the Rams given their relatively large spread as home dogs, there’s just too much to love out of the 49ers’ entire squad that a blowout win for San Fran still feels inevitable. Chalk this blockbuster matchup as a double-digit victory for the 49ers that’s enough to cover the large spread even as road faves.
