Bengals vs. Bills 2023 AFC Divisional Round Odds, Preview & Pick
It’s a chalk AFC Divisional Round matchup on Sunday as the third-seeded and AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals visit the No. 2 and AFC East champion Buffalo Bills – they sort of played in Week 17 during the regular season
In Week 17, the Bills visited the Bengals and Cincinnati was leading 7-3 in the first quarter when a Bills safety collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest – he would have died if not for spectacular work by the Buffalo medical staff. The game was postponed and eventually canceled. Hamlin is OK and has been at the team’s facility almost daily of late, but it’s not clear if he will ever play football again. Coach Sean McDermott said that Hamlin is on the road to being back to himself. It’s not clear if Hamlin will be in attendance for this game. He watched Buffalo’s 34-31 win over Miami last weekend remotely.
Both quarterbacks threw for 35 passing touchdowns in the regular season. Allen had 42 total touchdowns (2nd) and averaged 267.7 passing yards per game (6th), while Burrow had 40 total touchdowns (3rd) and averaged 279.7 passing yards per game (2nd).

Why Bet on the Cincinnati Bengals?
Joe Burrow completed 23-of-32 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown, adding nine yards and a touchdown on five carries. The box score is a bit misleading, largely due to the minimal number of offensive plays the Bengals were afforded, as Baltimore dominated time of possession. The Bengals had only four possessions in the second half, three of which combined for only 20 total yards.
Burrow and Allen will meet officially for the first time. Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, became the first quarterback ever chosen first overall to start a Super Bowl within his first two seasons. Allen, meanwhile, enters Sunday’s game as just the second player ever to reach 300 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in three consecutive postseason games, joining Matt Ryan.
In seven career playoff games, Allen has 19 total touchdowns and a 104.6 passer rating, which is the third highest in NFL history (minimum 150 attempts). Burrow’s four playoff wins are the most by a Bengals quarterback in franchise history. In five career playoff games, Burrow has seven total touchdowns and a 97.7 passer rating.
Cincinnati is attempting to become just the eighth team since the 1970 merger to begin a season 0-2 and still advance to its conference championship game. With a win Sunday, the Bengals would join the 1993 Dallas Cowboys, 1996 and 2001 New England Patriots, 1998 New York Jets, 2003 Philadelphia Eagles, 2007 New York Giants and 2014 Indianapolis Colts as teams that lost their first two games and advanced to conference championship games.
Why Bet on the Buffalo Bills?
The Bills were not sharp at all vs. the Dolphins, with QB Josh Allen throwing two picks and fumbling three times, losing one. The Dolphins converted Allen’s three turnovers into 18 points. It was the first time in franchise history that the Bills have won a playoff game despite losing the turnover battle 3-2 (previously 0-13 in those games). Throw in Allen’s seven sacks, and it was tied for the most combined sacks + turnovers by a QB in a playoff win since the 1970 merger. Turnover problems are nothing new for Allen, who led the NFL in the regular season with 19 and had three turnovers in one other game this season (vs. the Vikings).
Cincinnati wasn’t very sharp, either, in a 24-17 win over Baltimore last weekend. Defensive end Sam Hubbard returned Tyler Huntley’s fumble 98 yards for a tiebreaking touchdown in the fourth quarter. Huntley was trying to jump over the pile at the line of scrimmage and reach the ball over the goal line for a 24-17 lead, but it was punched free and recovered by Hubbard.
It was the longest fumble return for a touchdown in NFL postseason history. It also was the longest go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter in the postseason. Hubbard reached a maximum speed of 17.43 miles per hour on his run, according to Next Gen Stats. Hubbard covered 123.6 yards, the most on a touchdown by a player carrying a football during the 2022 season.
