Why Bet on the Buffalo Bills?

For the third consecutive season, the Buffalo Bills captured the AFC East crown following a superb 13-win campaign. And while the Bills had another meltdown during the postseason, most fans and experts still consider them as strong contenders for the Lombardi Trophy once more.

It was also star quarterback Josh Allen’s third straight season throwing for over 4,200 yards and at least 35 passing touchdowns, as he was often in the MVP conversation throughout the previous season. For as long as Allen is in prime shape and continues to connect with top wideout Stefon Diggs (five straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, a new career-high 11 TDs in 2022), this Buffalo offense that ranked only second to the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs in yards and points per contest will be as potent as ever.

The Bills also had the second-best sourcing defense last season, allowing just 17.9 points per contest. Former ninth-overall pick Leonard Floyd replaces Tremaine Edmunds at linebacker, and apart from that, this unit appears just as equipped as it has been the past couple of seasons. That being said, Buffalo should still be wary in their season opener against the Jets, which saw massive upgrades on their end.

Why Bet on the New York Jets?

For the seventh consecutive season, the New York Jets finished with a losing record and have yet to make the postseason since 2011. That could all change this upcoming campaign as second-year head coach Robert Saleh’s rebuild is kicked into high gear with the arrival of none other than future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

At 39 years of age, Rodgers doesn’t have much left in his tank and will need to make an immediate impact this season for New York’s calculated risk to pay off. Then again, A-Rod is a major step up from the bust that was Zach Wilson, and the four-time league MVP is already equipped with some of the brightest young talents in the NFL to date.

Despite their woes, the Jets were still fortunate to have both the Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year in their roster in wide receiver Garrett Wilson and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, respectively. There’s more optimism about this Gang Green squad than there has ever been in recent memory, which opens up the possibility of a massive upset in Week 1 over the Bills. It also doesn’t hurt that the Jets quietly had the fourth-best scoring defense last season, allowing just 18.6 points per game.

Bills vs. Jets Betting Trends

  • The Bills are 7-2 in its last nine regular-season road games (5-3-1 ATS).
  • Buffalo is 6-3 in the last eight meetings against Gang Green since 2019 (4-4 ATS).
  • The totals went under in seven of Buffalo’s last eight regular-season games on the road.
  • The Jets went 3-5 at home last season (SU/ATS).
  • The Jets are 2-8 in its last 10 outings against their division rivals (4-6 ATS).
  • The totals went under in four of the last five Jets games played in East Rutherford.

Bills vs. Jets Expert Betting Predictions

It would be easy to call this a matchup that the Bills should easily win given the recent history between these two teams. On the other hand, Rodgers gives the Jets a little more than a fighting chance to complete the upset. As such, we’ll have to side with the home dog in New York in the first of two battles this year between these two famed AFC East rivals.
