• When: Saturday, June 17, 2023. 8:00pm ET.

Harold Calderon vs. Shakhram Giyasov

Calderon versus Giyasov should be an entertaining bout. Calderon has a 27-0 record. The huge underdog in this has stopped 18 of his opponents before the final bell.

Giyasov doesn’t have nearly the experience Calderon has. Shakhram has 13-0. The favorite has won 6 of his bouts via straight up KO and 3 via TKO.

Although Calderon has more than double Giyasov’s wins, the chalk has fought the much better opponents. Giyasov should knock out Calderon. So look for a KO or TKO prop before backing the favorite on the money line.

Regis Prograis vs. Danielito Zorrilla // WBC World Super Lightweight Title

Regis Prograis has a single loss on his record. Josh Taylor, who just lost to Teofimo Lopez in a title fight, beat Prograis in 2019.

Since then, Regis has dominated his opponents. In his last, Prograis beat an excellent boxer in Jose Zepeda. The favorite knocked out Zepeda in the eleventh round. Expect Prograis to do the same to Zorrilla.

Danielito is a good boxer. But Regis has length. He’ll keep Zorrilla at the end of his right jab and then pepper Zorrilla with lead lefts all night. Look for a KO prop.

Justin Frost vs. Hassan Hamdan // Australian Super Lightweight Title

Justin Frost calls himself the “Iceman” but he only has 4 stoppage victories. For sure, Frost is a good boxer. He’s 13-2-1 overall. But you probably should come up with a different nickname than “Iceman” if you’ve won just 4-of-13 via technical knockout.

Hassan Hamdan is 5-0 with a single stoppage win. Hamdan is a decent boxer but his lack of experience could cost him. The odds make the dog worth backing.

Boxing Betting Pick: Justin Frost +170

Sam Goodman vs. Ra’eese Aleem

Goodman versus Aleem should be one of the best fights on the Ocampos versus Tszyu card. The +120 underdog is 14-0. He fought and beat a decent boxer in TJ Doheny via split decision in his last.

Goodman also has decent power. 7 of his bouts ended via stoppage before the final round. Ra’eese Aleem is undefeated with a 20-0 record. Aleem has won 8 of his bouts via technical knockout and 4 of his fights via referee technical decision.

This can go either way. Goodman offers better enough money line odds to warrant backing. So although Aleem can win, the underdog is the play.

Carlos Ocampo vs. Tim Tszyu // Interim WBO World Super Welterweight Title

Carlos Ocampo is as honest as they get. When we describe boxers by calling them “honest”, we mean they show up, they box, they fight, they give it their all and they make zero excuses.

But although Ocampo might challenge the 22-0 Tszyu, it’s going to be difficult to beat the favorite. Tszyu has power like his dad, the great Kostya Tszyu.

Tim also has a chin like his dad and can box if required like his dad. Ocampo may not last the full 12 rounds. So look for a prop that pays more for Tszyu to end this before the final bell.
