Braves vs. Yankees MLB Odds, Series Preview and Pick

By Carlos Chacon

The New York Yankees are expected to be one of the teams legitimately competing not only for the AL East championship but for a World Series title. However, that’s not what it’s looking like right now, with the Bronx Bombers wallowing on the bottom of the division standings.

The Atlanta Braves are also not doing good, as they are currently under .500. Nevertheless, a Braves-Yankees matchup is always must-watch baseball. Let’s dive in into this two-game series, along with the latest MLB odds, betting trends and prediction from our NitroBetting experts!

Why bet on the Atlanta Braves to win the series?

Projected Starters

  • Game 1: Charlie Morton (1-1, 4.76 ERA, 1.29 WHIP)
  • Game 2: Ian Anderson (0-0, 4.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP)

Morton got dinged in his last start, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits during a 6-5 loss to the Miami Marlins (Apr. 14) at home, but he did come away with 9 strikeouts in six innings.A chance to bounce back awaits Morton this Tuesday versus the Yankees, whose current batting lineup has a collective .176 career batting average against him. The right-handed veteran has logged in at least six innings in each of his last two appearances on the mound.

After Morton, the Braves will give the ball to Anderson, who is looking to pull off a much better performance than in his last two starts. Anderson has allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits across 10.1 innings in that stretch.

But if you step back and look at the bigger picture, Anderson has been pretty great in his last 10 starts, dating back to last season, during which he’s surrendered a single home run and a .230 slugging percentage.

Hitting

As of this writing, the Braves are only batting .236 on the season, but are fourth in the MLB in terms of OBP (.764). Ronald Acuña is doing a magnificent job at the plate, as he is batting .419, currently the best in all of baseball. He’s also got seven homers and 16 RBIs.

If he could start getting help from the other Braves bats, Atlanta should be able to turn things around quickly. However, Acuña’s availability should be monitored, as he seemed to have gotten hurt during Sunday’s games against the Chicago Cubs.

Why bet on the New York Yankees to win the series?

Projected Starters

  • Game 1: Jameson Taillon (1-0, 07.56 ERA, 1.44 WHIP)
  • Game 2: Corey Kluber (0-1, 6.10 ERA, 2.23 WHIP)

Taillon is still in search of his first win of the season after going 0-2 in his last two appearances on the mound. In the last one, he went 3.2 innings long and allowed 5 earned runs on 8 hits in a 7-3 road loss to the Toronto Blue Jays (Apr. 13). The current batting lineup of the Braves only has a .176 batting average against Taillon.

Like Taillon, Kluber is also looking to get his first W of the season when he takes the mound in Game 2 of this series. Kluber did help the Yankees in his first start, though, allowing just a run on 5 hits across four innings during a 5-3 home win vs. Toronto (Apr. 3).

Hitting

The Yankees’ anemic offense has been very much pronounced this season. Their struggles are mostly due to their cold offense that’s ranked as among the worst in the majors with a .210 batting average and a .642 OPS, as of this writing. That being said, the Yankees’ bats can’t be underestimated so long as Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, and DJ LeMahieu are active.

Braves vs. Yankees MLB Betting Trends

  • Charlie Morton’s teams are 6-4 in his last 10 road starts.
  • The Under is 4-1 in Charlie Morton’s last five road starts.
  • The Over is 2-0 in Ian Anderson’s last two starts.
  • Jameson Taillon’s teams are 6-4 in his last 10 home starts.
  • The Under is 3-0 in Jameson Taillon’s last three home starts.
  • The Over is 6-4 in Corey Kluber’s last 10 starts.

Braves vs. Yankees Series Betting Prediction

Both the Braves and the Yankees are clearly struggling on offense, which is starting to worry each of their fanbases. Betting on the Under is going to be tempting for the two games of this set, but the quality of talents on both teams’ batting lineups plus the inconsistency of the projected starters could turn this pair of contests into a high-scoring slugfest.
