Why Bet on the Cleveland Browns?
Despite the returns of Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb in Week 8, the Cleveland Browns still dropped their third game in four weeks this past Sunday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers held on to a 15-10 road victory.
Mayfield had a humble showing against the Steelers’ defense, completing 20 of 31 passes for 225 yards (just 7.3 yards per attempt) without a passing touchdown nor an interception. What’s a bigger concern is that Cleveland’s running game only racked up 96 rushing yards against PIttsburgh’s front seven, with Chubb averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and finishing with 61 yards on 16 carries.
The Browns have scored less than 20 points in three straight weeks and four of their last five games. With Chubb’s running mate Kareem Hunt not expected to be activated from the IR list until Week 10, Mayfield and the passing game have got to do more through the air once more. Thankfully, Cleveland’s defense has allowed no more than 17 points to each of the team’s last two opponents, and that’s a good sign heading into a Week 9 clash against a Cincinnati side that had just been humiliated by the Jets.
Why Bet on the Cincinnati Bengals?
After their Week 7 statement victory of the season against the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals reverted back to their bumbling ways this past Sunday, as they were handed a 34-31 upset by the one-win New York Jets. To make matters worse, it was debuting backup Jets QB Mike White who torched the Bengals that afternoon to the tune of 405 passing yards and three passing TDs.
On the bright side, Cincinnati’s defense still managed to force three Jets turnovers to keep New York on edge for most of the game. What’s more peculiar is head coach Zac Taylor’s play-calling decisions on offense. The Bengals only ran the ball 16 times for 41 rushing yards despite having a lead for the majority of the contest. Starting running back Joe Mixon scored his fifth rushing TD of the season, but was held to just 2.4 yards per carry that afternoon.
As we’ll see in the betting trends section below, Cincy has not fared well against Cleveland of late. But with each of the team’s three defeats this season each having been decided by just three points apiece, a bounce-back win could be in the works after being handed a reality check of a defeat by New York of all teams.
Browns vs. Bengals Betting Trends
- The Browns are 2-4 in their last six road games (4-2 ATS).
- The Browns are 5-1 in their last six meetings against Cincinnati, albeit with just a 2-4 record against the spread.
- The totals went under in four of Cleveland’s last six games in general.
- Inversely, the Bengals are 4-2 in their last six home games (SU/ATS).
- The Bengals are 3-4 over their last seven games as favorites to win (2-5 ATS).
- The totals went under in five of Cincy’s last seven outings.
Browns vs. Bengals Expert Betting Predictions
History would state that this is a matchup in favor of the Browns. On the other hand, Cincinnati is amidst one of their better first halves to a regular season in recent memory and that their loss to the Jets could be chalked up as a trap game that they just unfortunately fell into. Then again, Cleveland’s best players on offense are starting to get healthy as well, making this pivotal divisional clash very unpredictable especially coming from the crowded AFC North scene.
