Why Bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
That’s now three losses in their last four games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who fell to the rivaling Atlanta Falcons in Week 7, 16-13, by way of a gut-wrenching, game-winning field goal from the Falcons. Tampa Bay has slowed down considerably since their hot start to the campaign, scoring no more than 13 points in each of their three defeats. On the inverse, the team won all three of its matches wherein it scored 20 or more points in the contest.
Baker Mayfield was pedestrian under center, completing 27 of 42 passes for 275 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Mayfield also ran for 32 yards on the ground on a day when the Buccaneers mustered up just 73 rushing yards as a team. It’s this lack of a credible running game that’s limited the Bucs’ offense from opening up the passing game to its stud wide-receiver pairing of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
On a better note, Tampa’s defense is still holding its own, with its 13 takeaways being the third-most forced turnovers by an NFL team this season thus far. The Bucs’ plus-seven turnover differential is also tops in the league, although they did commit three turnovers themselves versus Atlanta this past weekend.
Why Bet on the Buffalo Bills?
There’s just something off about the Buffalo Bills, who dropped to 4-3 following a humbling 29-25 loss to the New England Patriots last week. Buffalo entered the 2023 campaign as a strong Super Bowl contender but has now suffered untimely defeats to the likes of the Patriots, Jets, and Jaguars.
Josh Allen posted eerily similar numbers as Tampa Bay’s Mayfield in Week 7, going 27-of-41 for 265 passing yards, a pair of TD throws, and one costly pick. It was a relatively quiet day for top receiver Stefon Diggs as well, with Diggs hauling in just six of 12 targets for 58 receiving yards and a trip to the end zone. Allen’s INT and lost fumble goes to show that Buffalo’s offense continues to live and die by its star QB and the team has been burnt by Josh’s mishaps more often than not of late.
What’s more concerning for the Bills is that their former top-five defense is starting to regress, as the losses of Tre’Davious White (Achilles) and Matt Milano (leg) due to injuries have finally caught up to them. Buffalo still ranks fifth in the NFL allowing just an average of 16.9 points per game to its opponents, but the team could be in for a surprise if the Bucs bring their A-game through the air in Orchard Park this Thursday night.
Buccaneers vs. Bills Betting Trends
- Tampa Bay is 3-1 in their last four road games (2-2 ATS).
- The Buccaneers are winless in their last five outings against AFC teams (SU/ATS).
- The totals went under in eight of Tampa Bay’s last 10 road trips.
- Buffalo has won seven straight regular-season home games (4-2 ATS), not including their lost homestand hosting a home game in London against the Jaguars in Week 5.
- The Bills are 8-1 in their last nine games against teams from the NFC (4-4-1 ATS).
- The totals went under in three of Buffalo’s last five outings in general.
Buccaneers vs. Bills Expert Betting Predictions
Considering the Bills’ stellar record at home of late, this should be a nice bounce-back win for them. However, their defense has been suspect, to say the least, which opens the door for Mayfield and the Bucs to possibly cover the relatively large point spread as road dogs. Buffalo takes this contest straight-up and with Tampa Bay covering the spread in another sloppy contest for these two relatively disappointing squads.
