Why Bet on the Los Angeles Chargers?
The Los Angeles Chargers saw their brief two-game win streak come to an end in Week 7 after they met their match in the form of the Dallas Cowboys. Los Angeles hasn’t tasted a winning record this season just yet, as the Cowboys ended those hopes with a 24-17 win in front of a SoFi crowd dominated by fans of America’s Team.
Justin Herbert was merely average under center, completing just 22 of 37 passes for 227 yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception. Stud running back Austin Ekeler’s return to the starting lineup after a three-week absence due to injury was also spoiled, as Ekeler finished with less than two yards per carry on 14 rush attempts (27 rushing yards).
LA has been one of the most volatile teams to follow this season, as their wealth of talent on both sides of the ball has yet to translate into consistent victories. And while the Bolts haven’t given up a ton of points to their opponents just yet, they’re still the second-worst team in the NFL in terms of yardage surrendered, giving up a whopping average of 391.6 yards per game to their opponents.
Why Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?
Entering Week 7 with an ample amount of rest are the Kansas City Chiefs, who won on Thursday night of Week 6 against the lowly Denver Broncos, 19-8. The Chiefs have won five games in a row, as the defending Super Bowl champs join the Dolphins, Eagles, Lions, and 49ers as teams with the best record in the league thus far at 5-1.
Patrick Mahomes did enough to pick up the low-scoring victory, throwing for 306 yards on 30-of-40 passing along with a passing TD and a pick. With pop star Taylor Swift once again watching from the skybox, Swift’s fling Travis Kelce had a big day, hauling all nine targets from Mahomes for 124 receiving yards.
What’s more surprising about this season’s Chiefs is that their defense has vastly improved compared to their stop units from recent years. Kansas City’s 14.7 points allowed per game is the second-best mark in the league right now only behind the Niners, but the team’s stop unit will likely be tested by an above-average Chargers offense for the first time since their Week 1 loss to Detroit.
Chargers vs. Chiefs Betting Trends
- LA is 2-3 in the last five road games (3-2 ATS).
- The Chargers are 1-3 in its last four contests against their division rivals (3-1 ATS).
- The totals went under in three of Los Angeles’ last five games on the road.
- Kansas City 9-1 in the last 10 home games, including the playoffs (6-4 ATS).
- The Chiefs are 6-2 in its last eight meetings versus the Chargers, albeit with just a 3-5 record against the spread in these games.
- Since 2019, the point totals in Chargers-Chiefs matchups have alternated between over and under, with their last meeting in November of last year taking the over.
Chargers vs. Chiefs Expert Betting Predictions
As the betting trends would state, the Chiefs have gotten the better of the Chargers over the past half-decade or so. But with Kansas City’s ATS record being far from encouraging against LA, we’ll have to go with the Bolts against the spread, win or lose, in a Week 7 battle that has huge potential to be decided in the final possession of the contest.
