Chicago Bears 2023 Straight-Up Overview
Chicago had a lot of holes to fill before the NFL Draft, which is why they traded the first pick for a lot more picks and a WR1 in D.J. Moore. Carolina’s former first round pick will be counted on to serve as Justin Fields’ top receiving target.
Fields showed his incredible rushing ability later in the season. In the open field, Justin is every bit as difficult to tackle as the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts. If Fields can improve his passing ability, something he is determined to accomplish, the Bears will have a much better 2023 than 2022.
Moore is excited to work with a quarterback on which he’s already on the same page. What else excites Moore is that the Panthers added running back D’Onta Foreman to the trade package.
Foreman averaged 4.5 yards per carry at Carolina last season. D’Onta is one of the more underrated running backs in the league. He has RB1 abilities but up until this season, Foreman had never gotten the chance to be the go-to back.
If Foreman excels, the Bears will start a pair of RB1s. Fields’ rushing ability is that good. Don’t think for a moment Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus wasn’t thinking that when he insisted the Panthers add Foreman to any trade package.
Chicago’s offense line isn’t top five material, but it has the potential to be above average. Eberflus used the Bears’ first round pick to draft Tennessee tackle Darnell Wright. Braxton Jones was a rookie last season. So if Jones develops at left tackle and smoothly moves to the pro ranks, the Bears O-line could be decent.
The Bears spent their two second round picks and their lone third round pick on defenders. DT Gervon Dexter from Florida, corner Tyrique Stevenson from Miami, and DT Zacch Pickens from South Carolina could start right away. If anything, they will add depth.
The real key is Tremaine Edmunds at the middle linebacker position. Buffalo’s former MLB can shore up a Bears’ defense that ranked thirty-first against the rush.
The changes should take. Chicago finished the season going 3-14 straight up. There’s no way the Bears are that bad this season. Expect a massive turnaround. Chicago goes from 3-14 to 7-10.
Chicago Bears 2023 SU Record Prediction: 7-10
Chicago Bears 2023 Against the Spread Overview
The Bears’ ATS record in 2022 was a horrendous 5-11-1. Oddsmakers take pride in not making mistakes two seasons in a row.
For an oddsmaker, a 5-11-1 against the spread record is a mistake. Expect Chicago to revert closer to the mean. Think 9-8 or 8-9. We’ll go 9-8 ATS.
Chicago Bears ATS Record Prediction: 9-8
Chicago Bears 2023 Over/Under Overview
The Bears went 10-7 over-to-under last season. Chicago should be close to that stat this season. The over under total could end up 10-7 again.
However, the lines makers know the Bears’ offense should be better. So let’s say Chicago underperforms in 1 game, the total will go 8-9 over-to-under.
Chicago Bears 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 8-9
