Chicago Bears 2024 NFL Season Win/Loss Total
The Chicago Bears don’t have a very rich history at quarterback and never have had a 4,000-yard passer, but that’s very much on the table this season after drafting former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall. What to expect from the 2024 Bears?

Chicago’s strength of schedule ranks among the easiest in the NFL this season, as its opponents combined for just a .467 winning percentage in 2023. The Bears are 4.5-point home favorites for Week 1 in Williams’ debut vs. Tennessee. The schedule includes five national stand-alone games: three prime-time contests — one each on Sunday, Monday and Thursday — a Week 6 battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars in London and a Thanksgiving matchup against the Lions in Detroit.
The Bears’ first nine games are all against non-division opponents before they begin a stretch of three straight and five of six contests versus NFC North rivals.
New QB in the House
The Bears are rebooting under center after trading Justin Fields this offseason to Pittsburgh and drafting former USC star QB Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall – the first time the Bears picked atop the draft in several decades. That wasn’t originally their choice but was acquired last offseason when Chicago traded the No. 1 overall pick to Carolina, which also got the Bear’s rising superstar wideout DJ Moore. Overall, Moore had 96 catches for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 21 yards and a touchdown on the ground last season.
Williams was widely considered the top prospect in a draft class loaded with talented quarterbacks. The 6-1, 215-pounder appeared in 37 college games with 33 starts over three seasons at Oklahoma (2021) and USC (2022-23), completing 66.9% of his passes for 9,782 yards with 93 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and rushing for 966 yards and 27 TDs on 289 carries. Williams won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore at USC in 2022.
He will now hold the reins of a team that could be ready for playoff contention. Since 1950, only eight QBs recorded double-digit wins in their rookie seasons, and only two of those — Russell Wilson with Seattle in 2012 and Mac Jones with the New England Patriots in 2021 — inherited a team with at least seven wins.
Williams was just one of the notable additions to the Bears. They also drafted wide receiver Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick, and brought in Keenan Allen via trade to join a room with Moore after his 1,000-yard season. Running back D’Andre Swift is also in the mix as Poles added playmakers with new coordinator Shane Waldron coming in.
Chicago got Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler, from the Chargers for only a 2023 fourth-round pick. Allen was voted to five straight Pro Bowls from 2017-21 and was chosen for a sixth time last season when he led the NFL with a career-high and franchise-record 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven TD’s despite missing the final four games with a heel injury. Last year, Allen also became the first player in NFL history to catch at least 15 passes in three career games. He became the fastest player in NFL history to surpass 900 receptions, doing so in his 139th career game. With Allen and Moore, the Bears are the only NFL team with two receivers who both compiled at least 1,200 yards last season.
A Look at 2024
Last season at Washington, Odunze was named AP First-Team All-American and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nation’s top receiver after establishing career highs with 92 receptions, 1,640 yards and 13 TDs. His 1,640 yards led all FBS receivers and were the most in Washington history.
Chicago signed the injury-prone but talented Swift to a three-year, $24.5 million free-agent deal. Swift was traded to the Eagles from the Lions during last year’s draft. He proceeded to earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl after rushing for a career-high 1,049 yards and five TDs on 229 carries while appearing in 16 games with 15 starts.
GM Ryan Poles considered firing Coach Matt Eberflus after last season but because the defense played so well after the trade for Montez Sweat, the defensive-minded Eberflus was kept but he had to makeover his offensive staff. The Bears boasted the No. 1 rushing defense in the league in 2023, allowing a total of just 1,468 yards. The unit also ranked second in rushing touchdowns allowed (8) – the second fewest in the NFL – and fourth in yards per carry (3.8). Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson was re-signed, which was very important to accomplish off his best season. Former Pro Bowl safety Kevin Byard was added in free agency. Byard’s addition helps replace fellow former All-Pro Eddie Jackson, who was released on Feb. 15.
Eberflus’ long-term security is no sure thing, given his 10-24 record through two seasons. Only John Fox (14-34 from 2015-17) and Abe Gibron (11-30-1 from 1972-74) have a worse winning percentage among Bears coaches.
Among the changes on Eberflus staff is the new offensive coordinator in Waldron. With the Seahawks, Waldron called plays for an offense led by Russell Wilson in 2021. He then helped quarterback Geno Smith go from a journeyman to AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 after passing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns.
