Cleveland Browns 2024 NFL Season Win/Loss Total
No team had worse injury luck at quarterback last season than the Cleveland Browns, yet they still made the playoffs thanks to Joe Flacco, who was signed off the street. What to expect from the 2024 Browns, assuming that starting QB Deshaun Watson is healthy? Flacco is no longer with the club.

Cleveland has the toughest schedule in the NFL this season, as its opponents combined for a .547 winning percentage. The Browns are set to host two prime time matchups, play three consecutive road games followed by three consecutive home games and host the defending Super Bowl champions all during the 2024 NFL season. Cleveland has two Thursday night games this season. The team has won their last six games on Thursday night and owns an 11-8 all-time record on Thursday. The Browns will close the regular season against the Ravens for the fourth time in team history and the first time since 2018. They are 1-point home favorites for the season opener vs. Dallas.
It Was a Tough 2023 Season
The Browns cycled through quarterbacks last year due to injury and ineffectiveness once starter Deshaun Watson was lost for the season. The team signed Joe Flacco off the street, and he would win NFL Comeback Player of the Year and lead Cleveland to an 11-6 regular-season record.
Flacco, who wasn’t on an NFL roster until late November, completed 60.3% of his passes for 1,616 yards with 13 touchdowns to eight interceptions in five games (90.2 passer rating) — averaging 323.8 passing yards per game. Flacco became the oldest player to win the Comeback Player of the Year award since Jim Martin in 1963, as both players were 39 years old at the time they won the award. The fifth straight quarterback to win the award, Flacco led the NFL in pass attempts (204), passing yards (1,316), passing touchdowns (13) and interceptions (eight) from Week 13 through 17 — four of which were starts.
In the wild-card round, however, the Browns were pounded 45-14 on Houston. It was the Browns’ worst postseason loss since a 34-0 thumping by the Baltimore Colts on Dec. 29, 1968. Flacco finished with 307 yards and had a touchdown pass in the first half, but his mistakes under pressure in the third quarter were too much for the Browns to overcome on a day when Texans rookie counterpart CJ Stroud easily outshone him in his playoff debut.
With Watson expected back healthy, the Browns let Flacco walk in free agency this season. Cleveland now has veterans Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley to back up Watson. Over the past two seasons, Watson has not been very good with a passer rating of 81.7 with Cleveland while averaging 184.8 passing yards per game — less than Mac Jones (204.7), Zach Wilson (188.5) and Desmond Ridder (186.5) in that span. This will be Year 3 of the fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract Watson was handed in 2022.
A Refreshed Squad
The team got Watson a new toy in wideout Jerry Jeudy, landing the former first-round pick from Denver in a trade and then signing him to a three-year extension. Last season, he appeared in 16 games and recorded 54 receptions and 758 receiving yards with two scores.
Cleveland running back Nick Chubb is one of the NFL’s best when healthy but suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2 last year. He’ll be ready for Week 1 this year. The Browns’ running game efficiency declined last season, and it wasn’t solely due to Chubb’s injury. The team has made significant changes to the offensive staff, including the addition of new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, assistant offensive line coach Roy Istvan, and Nick Charlton, who will serve as the run game coordinator.
Dorsey was fired in Buffalo last season after a start in which the Bills failed to live up to expectations. From 2019 to 2021, he was the Bills’ QB coach, helping shepherd Josh Allen’s rise to stardom. In his first season as Buffalo’s OC, in 2022, the Bills ranked second in points per game (28.4) and yards per game (397.6). Heck, even in his 10 weeks on the job last year, Buffalo ranked third in the NFL in yards per play (6.0) and second in third-down conversion rate (49.2%).
The defense is led by pass-rusher Myles Garrett, who won 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. . He led the Browns with 14 sacks and finished the season tied for seventh in the NFL. His 14 sacks tied for third-most by a Brown in a season. Garrett is also the only NFL player to record at least 14 sacks in each of the past three seasons, and the only player to record at least 10 sacks in each of the past six seasons.
The Browns also re-signed defensive end Za’Darius Smith after a season when he recorded only 5.5 sacks but, according to advanced metrics, still disrupted the quarterback, as his 21% pass rush win rate ranked 12th among all qualifiers.
