Cowboys vs. 49ers 2023 NFC Divisional Round Odds, Preview & Pick
One of the great NFL playoff rivalries from the 1990s is renewed on Sunday in the Divisional Round as the Dallas Cowboys visit the San Francisco 49ers for a trip to the NFC title game. It’s the last of the four Divisional games.
These teams didn’t play in the regular season but the 49ers visited the Cowboys in the Wild Card Round last year and won 23-17. Deebo Samuel ran 26 yards for a touchdown for a comfortable lead in the third quarter before the Cowboys rallied and ran out of time trying to get a final play. The 49ers overcame a terrible interception by Jimmy Garoppolo when they led by 13 in the fourth quarter. The game ended when Dallas was trying to snap the ball at the Niners’ 24 but the clock expired before Dak Prescott could do it in a bit of controversy. Prescott was 23 of 43 for 254 yards.
Sunday will be the ninth playoff meeting between the franchises to tie a league record. The only other pairs of teams to meet nine times in the NFL playoffs are the Cowboys and Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams, and the 49ers and Green Bay Packers.
Dallas has 36 postseason wins and with a victory on Sunday would tie the New England Patriots (37 postseason wins) for the most in NFL history. San Francisco has 35 postseason wins and with a victory, would tie Dallas, Green Bay and Pittsburgh for the second-most all-time.

Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys?
The Cowboys dominated the Bucs in Tampa in the Wild Card Round, 31-14, despite four straight PAT misses by Brett Maher. He became the first player in any NFL game since 1932 — a span of 16,207 regular-season and playoff contests — to miss four extra point attempts. In the regular season, Maher made 29 of 32 field goal attempts, missing from 59 yards, twice, and 46 yards. He made 50 of 53 PATs but missed his final attempt in the regular-season finale loss to the Washington Commanders then the four straight against the Bucs.
Dallas plans to stick with Maher but did sign Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad on Wednesday as insurance. Vizcaino played in three games this season with the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots. He made two field goal attempts and three extra points in the Cardinals’ win over the Los Angeles Rams. In the win over Tampa Bay, Prescott became just the fifth player in NFL history to register four passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the same postseason game, joining Aaron Rodgers, Tobin Rote, Matt Ryan and Peyton Manning. He also became the first player in the Cowboys’ storied postseason history to reach both 300 passing yards and four touchdown passes in a playoff game. Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?
The 49ers beat Seattle 41-23 last week. Seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 332 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers while rushing four times for 16 yards and another score in his first playoff start. He eclipsed the 300-yard mark for the first time this season in addition to recording the first four-touchdown game of his career. Purdy became the first rookie quarterback ever with four total touchdowns in a playoff game and had the most passing yards (332) by a player making his first career playoff start since 1937.
Christian McCaffrey had 15 rushes for 119 yards, adding two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown. Deebo Samuel caught 6-of-9 targets for 133 yards and a touchdown, the Seahawks, adding three rushes for 32 yards.
Purdy will become the 10th rookie quarterback to start a Divisional Playoff game since the 1970 merger, the first since the Cowboys’ Prescott met the Packers in the 2016 playoffs. Since 1970, only four rookie quarterbacks have started in a conference championship game: Shaun King in 1999, Ben Roethlisberger in 2004, Joe Flacco in 2008 and Mark Sanchez in 2009.
