Denver Broncos 2023 Straight-Up Overview

The Broncos’ 2022 was an unmitigated disaster. Denver started the season the second choice to win the AFC West Division. The Ponies didn’t just fail to win their division, they stumbled their way to an awful 5-12 straight up record.

We must assume Payton believes he can turn it around. Sean had options. He didn’t have to go to Denver. So if he decided to throw in with the Broncos, it has to be because he believes Denver is good enough to beat Kansas City, the Raiders, and the Chargers and win the AFC West.

Success for Denver starts with quarterback Russell Wilson. On Day 1, Payton told Russ that his personal quarterback coach was no longer welcome at practices. Payton then set ground rules for Wilson and the offense.

If Sean can get Russ to play half as good as he did during Wilson’s Seattle days, the Broncos will win 2 more games than they did last season. The defense isn’t a concern. In fact, it remains one of the top units in the NFL.

But if Payton can get Wilson to play eighty to ninety percent the way he did when he was at Seattle, Denver could be one of the better squads in the AFC. Payton is that good of a coach and the schedule has a lot of winnable games.

Also, Kansas City must play without Eric Bienemy calling plays, Eric took the offensive coordinator job at Washington. If everything gels, the Broncos should turn around their losing record.M.o<

Payton had a lot of different teams angling for his services. He chose Denver. So we’re predicting it works out.

Denver Broncos 2023 Against the Spread Overview

Denver could be this season’s 13-4 against the spread team. Why? Every season, a team that was horrible against the spread the season before turns it around. The team usually turns it around because oddsmakers and handicappers don’t believe the team has changed much from the season before.

Denver has a chance to be that team but Payton’s presence makes it unlikely. The Broncos’ spread record should mirror their straight-up record. So let’s go 10-7.

The Broncos’ offense was terrible in 2022. It was so bad that the total went 6-11 over to under. This season, Denver’s offense should be much better.
