2 Reasons Why Miami is Deshaun Watson’s Best Landing Spot
There were quite a number of preseason rumblings about Deshaun Watson being shipped off to a new team, particularly the Miami Dolphins, after reports broke about sexual assault allegations against the Houston Texans. Those talks have quieted down since, but recent developments indicate that a deal between the Texans and the Dolphins is back on the table.
NitroBetting is here to bring the latest news all throughout the 2021 NFL season. This time, we’ll cite two reasons why Miami is an ideal fit in the rumored trade for Deshaun Watson. Find out more about what the trade means for the Dolphins, Texans, and the maligned quarterback’s short-term futures, as well as a breakdown of the recent NFL betting odds pertaining to the parties involved leading up to Week 7 of the regular season.
The Deshaun Watson Trade Rumors to Miami Are No Joke
After six weeks of action, the Miami Dolphins are 1-5 and just got stunned by the winless Jacksonville Jaguars in overtime this past week in London. There were high expectations for Miami entering the 2021 season, but the team finds itself in a downward spiral to put head coach Brian Flores back on the hot seat. So much so that the Dolphins are currently (+2.5) home dogs in their Week 7 matchup against the middling Atlanta Falcons.
In turn, many news outlets reported that the Dolphins have reached out to Houston again in hopes of making the deal for Deshaun Watson happen. Some are even speculating that a deal could be made within the week. Watson would have to be cleared to play by the NFL front office, though, as his ongoing civil lawsuit for multiple counts of sexual assault has yet to be resolved.
As an NFL player, however, Watson is one of the best play-callers in the league. The former CFP national champion has a total of 109 touchdowns to just 36 interceptions and has over 14,500 passing yards in less than four full seasons as Houston’s starting QB. Watson is the type of player who could instantly turn any NFL team’s fortunes around, and Miami’s recent woes have certainly led the team to take desperate measures in hopes of salvaging their 2021 campaign before it’s too late.
An Ideal Destination for Watson Himself
One other hurdle in making a trade for Deshaun Watson happen, apart from the off-field issues, is that the 26-year-old QB’s contract has a no-trade clause that only Watson can waive himself. Luckily for the Dolphins, they’re already on the inside track of acquiring Watson’s services.
Back in the preseason when trade rumors for the three-time Pro Bowl selection were at their peak, Watson himself stated that Miami is one of the few landing spots that he agrees with. The sunny sights and sounds of Florida truly make for an attractive destination for the young quarterback however tempting the distractions around one of America’s top vacation spots is for someone who’s dealing with personal problems.
Regardless, Miami has a solid football team built with a few bright spots on the roster. Perhaps better quarterback play is just what the Dolphins need to snap out of their funk, and Watson can certainly save their season given enough time to prepare and get acquainted with his new team’s system. However, that’s only if Watson can also save his own hide from the long arm of the law, first and foremost.
