Why Bet on the New York Giants?
There’s still no saving the freefalling New York Giants, who’ve now lost four straight games after their 34-10 drubbing courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The Giants can only look on as their division rivals from Philly are having much more success this season whilst they’re on their way to their fifth consecutive campaign with a losing record.
New York’s offense, which is averaging just 11.5 points across its four-game losing streak, simply isn’t the same without Daniel Jones (neck) at the helm. Neither of the team’s backup quarterbacks in Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm had the answer against the Eagles’ defense, as the two combined for just 118 passing yards, two interceptions, and one garbage-time touchdown.
Worst of all, standout running back Saquon Barkley remains a non-factor and has not found similar success to his glowing rookie campaign two years ago. Barkley was held to just 32 rushing yards on 15 carries; the fifth time in eight starts wherein he averaged less than four yards per carry in a contest. Although, recent history has it that the G-Men have a pretty good track record against the Bears. This might be enough reason to still have faith in them at least in terms of bets against the spread, as we’ll get into more detail below.
Why Bet on the Chicago Bears?
Much respect goes out to the Chicago Bears, who escaped with a tight 25-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in a rare snow-covered afternoon over in the Pacific Northwest. And while Chicago snapped its three-game losing streak with that win, the team’s 5-10 record isn’t good enough to save them from an inevitable losing season similar to their Week 17 opponent.
Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles rediscovered some of his magic in place of struggling and injured rookie QB Justin Fields (ankle), with Foles completing 24 of 35 passes for 250 yards and one passing TD without a turnover. Running backs David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert each found the end zone through the ground as well.
The Bears’ defense, which is eighth in the league allowing an average of 326.2 offensive yards to their opponents, should have a relatively easy time containing an out-of-whack Giants offense. Then again, their ninth-worst scoring defense (24.9 PAPG) is still quite concerning, as well as their second-worst turnover differential at minus-13.
Giants vs. Bears Betting Trends
- The Giants are on a six-game road losing streak (1-5 ATS).
- The G-Men are 4-3 in the last seven meetings against Chicago since 2007, but with a stellar 6-1 record against the spread at that.
- The totals went under in seven of New York’s last nine games in general.
- The Bears are winless in the last five home games (SU/ATS).
- The Bears are 9-1 in the last 10 games wherein they were favored to win (4-6 ATS).
- The totals went over in three of Chicago’s last four outings.
Giants vs. Bears Expert Betting Predictions
A Chicago team spearheaded by Foles for the second straight week should mean better results than with developing Fields under center. However, if the Bears give Fields the green light to continue his maiden NFL campaign, the Giants may just fluster the rookie enough to pull off the upset or, at the very least, cover the rather generous spread.
