Why bet on the San Francisco Giants?

With the 7-4, 11th-inning victory Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants are now on a three-game winning streak. And while they remain six games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West standings, their 27-21 record is still the sixth-best mark in the National League to date.

Rookie Donovan Walton sent Joey Bart home in the 11th with a one-run double to take the lead before slugger Joc Pederson drove Walton and himself home as well with a two-run home run to keep the Phillies far from reach come the bottom of the inning. Another rookie in Luis Gonzalez also stepped up, with Gonzalez going 4-of-5 with two RBIs.

While San Fran’s offense has been clicking, the team’s pitching could still needs some improvement. The Giants allowed four runs to their opponents in each of their showings during this three-game win streak. Carlos Rodon (4-4, 3.60 ERA) looks to remedy his team’s pitching struggles, but the former standout White Sox southpaw has allowed a total of 22 hits and 13 runs in 15 combined innings over his last three starts; each of which led to a losing decision.

Why bet on the Philadelphia Phillies?

Make that five straight losses now for the Philadelphia Phillies, who’ve last all four of their serieses since taking three of four games against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers in mid-May. Tuesday’s 11th-inning defeat to the Giants also marks the third consecutive time that the Phillies lost a game that went into extra innings and 12 of the last 16 of such contests under Joe Girardi’s management.

Philadelphia is the epitome of a mediocre ball club right now, as despite their 21-29 losing record, their point differential for the season is dead-even literally at zero to date. Philly’s offense could be in for another rough patch as well, considering that Jean Segura (.274 batting average, six HRs, 19 RBIs) had his hand hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt Tuesday and could miss Wednesday’s contest. The Phillies is hoping that shortstop Didi Gregorius (knee) returns from his rehab soon to give them a boost in aid of other Bryce Harper and Co.

Taking the mound up next for the Phillies is Aaron Nola (2-4, 3.56 ERA) who has yet to recapture the same magic of superb 2018 season wherein he earned his one and only All-Star nod. Nola’s been feast or famine with his massive arm of late, as the 28-year-old righty has a total of 27 strikeouts in his last three starts; albeit having also given up 14 hits and seven runs in 20.2 innings of action during that three-start span.

Giants vs. Phillies MLB Betting Trends

  • The Giants are 5-3 in the last eight road games.
  • The Giants are 5-2 in the last seven games played in Philly.
  • The totals went under in four of San Fran’s last six games away from the Bay Area.
  • The Phillies are 3-10 in the last 13 home games.
  • The Phillies are 2-7 in the last nine games against teams from the NL West.
  • The totals went under in eight of Philadelphia’s last 10 homestands.

Giants vs. Phillies Betting Prediction

One would argue that the Giants are in for another easy victory despite being on the road, as what their 14-10 record away from home this season would suggest. However, it’s worth noting that general manager Gabe Kapler will not be present in the dugout with his team for the fifth straight game as his boycott against the latest school shooting in Texas continues. Kapler’s absence may throw off the Giants’ gameplan Wednesday, which could mean an upset victory for a Phillies squad that is desperate for a win right now.
