By Hank Blaine

One of the most interesting squads heading into the new NFL Season has to be the Green Bay Packers. For the first time in what feels like forever, the Green Bay Packers will play a season without Aaron Rodgers. While Rodgers was a suitable replacement for Brett Favre, the jury is out on AR’s replacement, Jordan Love. Will Love play QB the way the Cheeseheads expect? Green Bay Packers 2023 Straight-Up Overview

Aaron Rodgers had played his entire 17-year career with the Green Bay Packers. During that time, AR had pocketed 4 MVPs, 10 All-Pro designations and had become the NFL’s all-time completion percentage leader.

Rodgers might be the greatest to ever play not named Tom Brady. He’s such an institution that the Packers and their fans will root for Aaron even though he’ll wear Jets green instead of Packer green this season.

So it goes without saying that the pressure on Jordan Love is tremendous. Love, by his admission, wasn’t throwing a pretty deep ball during minicamp. If Love struggles during training camp in July, most will write off the Packers as the second, maybe even third, best team in the NFC North.

There were moments last season when Love played great football but there weren’t many because the Packers didn’t play Love much. Jordan ended the season throwing for 195 yards and a TD without any interceptions.

For his three year career, Jordan Love is 50-of-83 for a 50.2% completion percentage. He simply isn’t on the same level as an Aaron Rodgers. Heck as this point, it’s difficult to put Jordan on the level of a Baker Mayfield.

To make matters more difficult for Love, outside of Christian Watson, a second year pro, there aren’t many A-list targets. Love goes into a situation where there are significant barriers for him to break through.

But with that being said, we must give Love some credit. He is a first round draft pick who has spent three years learning from one of the best to ever play the game.

For sure, Love will have his growing pains, but by the end of the season, he could be one of the league’s top signal callers. Also, the schedule is more than workable.

Green Bay plays Chicago, the Lions, and the Vikings twice. The Packers can split against those teams. Carolina, Atlanta, and New Orleans will be good. Tampa Bay won’t.

The Raiders should be a win. So should the Rams. The Steelers could be another W. The Chargers are at Lambeau, which should be an eighth win.

Also, Green Bay can beat the Falcons, Saints, and Panthers. Let’s give them 2-of-3, which means although it’s scary to think of Jordan Love running Green Bay’s offense instead of Aaron Rodgers, the Packer should finish a decent 10-7 and if Love is a superstar, Green Bay could lose no more than 5 games.

Green Bay Packers 2023 SU Record Prediction: 10-7

Green Bay Packers 2023 Against the Spread Overview

There’s a chance Green Bay is this season’s against the spread darling. Oddsmakers will struggle to set solid betting lines.

So if Love plays above projections, GB will cover many more games than they lose ATS. Detroit went 12-5 against the spread last season. The Packers could pull the 12-5 ATS record in 2023.

Green Bay Packers ATS Record Prediction: 12-5

Green Bay Packers 2023 Over/Under Overview

Setting totals on Green Bay games will be challenging. A wide receiver must step up. Romeo Dubs is the likely person to support Watson.

If he doesn’t, Love will struggle and so will the Pack. Oddsmakers should set conservative totals early in the season, which will push over the total in Packer games. We predict 11-6 over to under.

Green Bay Packers 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 11-6
