By Jeff Stinger

The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees face each other in the postseason for the third time since 2017, with the latter sweeping the former in three games back in their 2020 AL Wild Card Series. However, the Guardians finished the second half of the current season stronger than the Yanks and are coming off a 2-0 postseason sweep of their own as we speak. Who’ll win this latest battle between two storied baseball franchises?

Nitrobetting is ready to lend a hand to its bettors with their winning bets to be shot out of the park. This time, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming American League Divisional Series showdown between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees.

What to Know About the Cleveland Guardians

  • Odds to Win 2022 ALDS Series: +180

Despite coming up one win short of securing a first-round postseason bye, the Cleveland Guardians easily got the job done in their AL Wild Card Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cleveland won each of those crucial playoff showdowns against the Rays by one run apiece and both contests were low-scoring affairs.

It just goes to show that Cleveland’s stellar bullpen has been the key to their success this season. The team ranked sixth in the majors in combined earned-run average (3.46 ERA) as well as fourth in total saves thanks to standouts as starters Shane Beiber and Cal Quantrill, and closer Emmanuel Clase. On the other side of the ball, the G’s also ranked seventh in team batting average (.254) with star slugger Jose Ramirez leading the charge and a breakout rookie campaign from outfielder Steven Kwan.

With a disciplined offense and a deep pitching roster, the Guardians went 46-26 after the All-Star Break to separate themselves from the rest of the relatively mediocre AL Central. They’ve already won a playoff series for the first time in four tries since reaching the World Series in 2016 and are ready to exact some postseason revenge against those darn Yankees.

What to Know About the New York Yankees

  • Odds to Win 2022 ALDS Series: -222

Unlike the Guardians, the New York Yankees began the 2022 MLB season on a powerful note before coasting to a 35-35 record after the All-Star Break. Then again, their 93 wins were one more victory than Cleveland’s season total, which was just enough to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs.

New York definitely needed the bye in order to have several of their key pieces heal from their injuries. The good news is that closer Clay Holmes appears ready to play in the ALDS after dealing with a sore shoulder. The bad news, though, is that recently-acquired outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand), DJ LeMahieu (toe), and Matt Carpenter (foot) are still battling their own health issues.

Nevertheless, the Yankees are still stacked with talent that their top-heavy roster can weather these losses on offense, especially with record-setting slugger Aaron Judge coming off a historic 62-home-run campaign. The Yanks’ starting rotation is still quite frightening and could make quick work of Cleveland if Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes turn in gems in the first two games of the series. Not only did they lead the majors in homers this regular season, but they also ranked third overall in team ERA (3.30) to round out their balanced prowess.

  • The totals have gone over in six of Cleveland’s last nine road games.

  • The totals went over in eight of the last 11 games played in The Bronx.

Guardians vs. Yankees 2022 ALDS Series Expert Betting Predictions

There’s just too much talent and depth on the Yankees’ side that it’s hard to bet against the AL’s resident antiheroes. However, the Guardians have looked more competent of late than most fans give them credit for. New York should win the series outright, but it won’t be a sweep of Cleveland like what had transpired a couple of years ago.
