Houston Astros Advance to 2022 World Series
There were no big surprises over in the American League this 2022 MLB Postseason, as the Houston Astros emerged from the battlefields unscathed en route to their fourth World Series appearance in six years. Nobody’s been able to stop the Astros’ spectacular playoff surge, which is forebodingly bad news for the Philadelphia Phillies waiting on the other side.
Nitrobetting is ready to lend a hand to its bettors with their winning bets to be shot out of the park. This time, let’s recap how the Houston Astros dominated the rest of the American League and advanced to the 2022 MLB World Series.
Houston Astros’ Road to the 2022 World Series
Still the Best in the AL West
Not only did the Astros win their fifth division pennant during their amazing six-year timespan to date, but they also finished the 2022 MLB regular season with a staggering 106 wins; the only team in the American League to win more than 100 games.
That’s now four triple-digit-winning campaigns for Houston as well since the team’s lone World Series win in 2017, continuing the excellence of the ballclub even in the wake of that ever-so-controversial championship-winning run. Redemption is on the Astros’ minds and there’s no evidence that this spectacular 2022 squad has any more deceiving tricks up their sleeves, and just great baseball being played on both ends of the field.
Sleepless in Seattle
Many baseball fans were on Seattle’s side during the ALDS showdown with Houston, considering that the Mariners haven’t been to the postseason in over two decades. However, the Astros made it aware that it’s not the Mariners’ time to shine just yet, as they swept the M’s in three games.
Houston’s thrilling 1-0 victory in 18 grueling innings of action in Game 3 of the ALDS series will be forever remembered as an all-time postseason classic. Shortstop Jeremy Pena knocked the series-clinching run out of T-Mobile Park to the dismay of Seattle fans. Pena looked like the better rookie this postseason than the Mariners’ golden boy Julio Rodriguez, as Pena is batting .303 with 10 hits, five RBIs, three home runs, and three doubles.
Blowing Out the Bronx Bombers
n a star-studded showdown billed as a clash of the titans, the Astros were once again pitted against the Yankees in the ALCS; their fourth meeting at this stage of the playoffs since 2017. Houston won each of the last three ALCS meetings and would go on to win its fourth straight over the Yanks with an astounding 4-0 series shutout.
The Astros are only one of three teams in MLB history to have swept their ALDS and ALCS opponents, joining the 2007 Rockies and the 2014 Royals. However, history isn’t necessarily on Houston’s side, as both Colorado and Kansas City failed to win the World Series during their respectively dominant playoff runs.
As of this writing, the Astros are (-175) favorites to win the 2022 MLB World Series. Their opponent, the Philadelphia Phillies, are (+155) underdogs to win baseball’s grandest prize. Philly shocked the world by eliminating the 111-win Dodgers in the NLCS, 4-1, and after eliminating the defending champions the Braves in four games in the NLDS and sweeping the Cardinals in two games during the NL Wild Card round.
