Houston Texans 2023 Straight-Up Overview

Last season, the Texans won 3-of-17 games. Houston played in a tie game. So the Texans official straight up record last season was 3-13-1.

There are reasons to believe the Texans make huge strides this season. Offensively, Houston will be much better than they were in 2023.

The Texans boast one of the top pairs of tackles in the league. Laremy Tunsil is one of the NFL’s best left tackles. Tytus Howard is one of the top right tackles in the NFL.

The interior of the line was a mess in 2022. There’s no way it’s not better in 2023. The Texans traded for Shaq Mason, who will help big time at right guard. Juice Scruggs, a second round pick this past April, is an upgrade at center over Scott Quessenberry. Left guard Kenyon Green struggled last year, but he was a rookie. Green still has upside.

Coach DeMeco Ryans has made Stroud the starter at quarterback. C.J. gets to throw to John Metchie III, a second round pick in 2022 who had to sit out his first season due to an injury. If Metchie III hadn’t suffered an injury while playing for Alabama in college, he may have been a top ten first round pick.

Dalton Schultz is one of the league’s better tight ends. Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary are solid running backs.

On defense, rookie Anderson and Sheldon Rankins anchor an underrated front seven. Shaquil Griffin is a solid corner and Devin Singletary Jr. rocked it last season as a rookie.

The schedule isn’t easy, but Houston is good enough to sweep the Titans and split with the Colts and Jaguars. Victories over the Browns, Cardinals, and Buccaneers means the Texans have a real chance of adding 4 wins to their 2022 total.

Houston Texans 2023 SU Record Prediction: 7-10

Houston Texans 2023 Against the Spread Overview

In 2022, the Texans went a solid 8-8-1 against the spread. Houston should cover in more games this season than they did in the last for a couple of reasons.

First, the Texans have improved on both sides of the ball. Second, oddsmakers will set lines that devalue those improvements. For sure, the Texans won’t skate to an unbelievable record ATS, but Houston will win more versus the spread than they lose.

Houston Texans ATS Record Prediction: 10-7

Houston Texans 2023 Over/Under Overview

Last season, Houston games went 7-10 over to under. The Texans have improved on offense, but, at least early in the season, oddsmakers won’t believe improvements until they see them.

So the over/under totals on Houston Texans’ games will be low enough to where the over hits three more times than the under.

Houston Texans 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 10-7
