Back top 5 power teams that had major coaching changes to cover
Alabama is just a 31 point favorite over Western Kentucky in their first game of the season. The reason? The Tide hired Kalen DeBoer to replace Nick Saban. Nobody knows exactly what they’re getting with DeBoer. So, Bama faces a coverable line.
Michigan hosts Texas in week 2. The Wolverines go from John Harbaugh to Sherrone Moore. The odds currently show Michigan at +3.5 even though the game is in Ann Arbor. Power 5 teams that have changed coaches often face spreads they can cover early. Take advantage.
Ohio State and Georgia should cover in every early season game
In their first four games, the Buckeyes battle Akron, Western Michigan, Marshall and is at Michigan State. Chip Kelly is the new offensive coordinator and Will Howard, the former Kansas State star, is the starting quarterback. Back the Bucks to cover in all of their first four games.
Georgia takes on Clemson in their first game as a -13.5 favorite. The Dawgs cover for sure because unlike his peers, Dabo Swinney doesn’t use the transfer portal. You must use the transfer portal to compete against the likes of Georgia.
The Bulldogs then battle Tennessee Tech, a game we likely can’t bet, before traveling to Kentucky, another win and cover, and then heading to Tuscaloosa on Sep 28 to face Bama. UGA has the much better defense this season. The Dogs cover versus Bama on the road.
Home dogs have good chances of winning on the ML in early games
Texas A&M is a -1 favorite versus Notre Dame in week 1. The line should change to favor the Irish. Michigan is a +3.5 home dog versus Texas in week 2. Both home squads, the Aggies and Wolverines have big chances of winning their respective contests.
Here’s a big one. Hawaii is a +16.5 home dog versus UCLA. If an ML lands, consider backing the Warriors because the game happens in Hawaii and UCLA shouldn’t be good this season. Another one? How about USC at +6 in a “home game” in Vegas versus LSU? The fans, for sure, will be on the side of the bounce back Trojans.
Bet against Florida State to cover games early
It’s not cool to point out teams, but FSU went through profound changes during the offseason. No Jordan Travis and no Jared Verse means the Seminoles won’t be nearly as much of a force as they were in 2023.
The early schedule isn’t easy. Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, and California are quality programs. Tech and BC always play FSU tough while Memphis and California often send top college quarterbacks to the field.
Mike Norvell will have his squad ready to win. The Seminoles may not cover a single early game, though.
