Why Bet on Iga Swiatek?

Expectations are once again high for World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who dominated the 2022 WTA Tour season whilst also setting new records in the process. The Polish powerhouse had a lengthy 37-match win streak in the middle of the previous season, which is a new record for any singles tennis player in the 21st century.

Not only was Swiatek nigh-unbeatable last year, but she also took home a pair of Grand Slam victories along the way, having won the French Open for the second time in her career followed by her maiden US Open title to round out the campaign.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old superstar is off to a relatively slow start in 2023, losing in the semifinals of the United Cup in Brisbane as her tune-up tourney leading up to the Aussie Open. Then again, a semifinal finish is nothing to scoff at and she may be just saving her energy for what should be another deep run in Melbourne.

Why Bet on Jule Niemeier?

Don’t count Jule Niemeier out that easily, as the 23-year-old has surprisingly been at her best on the big stage of Grand Slam events of late. She had a superb semifinal run at Wimbledon last year, followed by another strong fourth-round finish at the US Open to boost her right into the top 70 of the world rankings.

Niemeier, currently ranked at World No. 68 amongst women’s singles competitors, has only faced Swiatek once in her career, and this was at the aforementioned US Open. It was Swiatek who handed the Dortmund native a straight-sets exit in Flushing Meadows, giving Niemeier the proper motivation in their upcoming rematch.

Sadly, Niemeier has had minimal success in her tongue professional career, with her first and only tournament win coming last June at the Makarska Championships in Croatia. It was a mere WTA 125 tourney at that, which means she’s about to see a significant spike in difficulty once more at a Grand Slam event. Drawing the No. 1 seed in the first round is also a bad omen that she’ll likely fall victim to Swiatek all over again.

Iga Swiatek vs. Jule Niemeier Betting Trends

  • Swiatek is 45-7 on the hard courts since the start of the 2022 WTA Tour season.
  • Swiatek won in two of her last four Grand Slam appearances last season.
  • Niemeier lost all three of her opening matches Down Under this year.
  • Niemeier has an even record of 13-13 on the hard courts between 2020 and 2022.

Iga Swiatek vs. Jule Niemeier Expert Betting Prediction

As tempting as it may be to go against the trend, there aren’t many compelling cases to be made for Niemeier’s odds of upsetting Swiatek in the first round. Swiatek is simply on another tier that’s beyond Niemeier’s skill cap, and the real question should be whether or not Iga takes the opening match in straight sets or if Niemeier puts up a decent fight and steals a set before bowing out of the tournament.
