Jaguars vs. Bengals 2021 NFL Week 4 Odds, Pick and Preview
On Jan. 13, 2020, in the College Football Playoff national championship game in New Orleans, top-ranked LSU and Joe Burrow smoked No. 3 Clemson and Trevor Lawrence 42-25. Burrow threw for five touchdowns and ran for another. Burrow became the first major college quarterback to throw 60 touchdown passes in a season and LSU snapped defending national champion Clemson’s 29-game winning streak at the time.
He of course won the Heisman Trophy that year and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Lawrence would go first in the 2021 draft. On Thursday night, the Jaguars visit the Bengals as the two face off as professionals for the first time.

Why Bet on the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Thursday marks only the second ever quarterback meeting between the two most recent first overall picks. Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield (No. 1 overall in 2018) and Arizona’s Kyler Murray in (No. 1 overall in 2019) met in Week 15 of the 2019 season.
Burrow is 1-0 vs. the Jaguars, though, as the Bengals beat Jacksonville 33-25 last year when Lawrence was still in school. Joe Mixon rushed for 151 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns and caught a 9-yard TD pass from Burrow. The Bengals had 505 yards of offense. Gardner Minshew II was the Jags’ QB that day and threw two TD passes but is now with the Eagles.
Lawrence is still looking for his first NFL win as the Jags are 0-3, losing each game by double digits, and on an 18-game skid overall. Lawrence completed 22-of-34 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Jaguars’ 31-19 Week 3 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. The Jaguars took a 13-7 lead into halftime but didn’t do much else. Lawrence is tied for the NFL lead with seven picks to just five TDs.
Kicker Josh Lambo has missed all three of his field goal attempts and two extra points through Week 3 but it appears his job is safe for one more week – perhaps only due to the quick turnaround. The Jags did sign kicker Matthew Wright to the practice squad so this could be Lambo’s last game.
Why Bet on the Cincinnati Bengals?
Cincinnati won 24-10 at Pittsburgh on Sunday to improve to 2-1 – that was Burrow’s first NFL road win. He completed 14 of 18 passes for a career-high 77.8 completion percentage and added three touchdown passes. Burrow, Derek Carr and Patrick Mahomes are the only AFC quarterbacks with at least two touchdown passes in each of the first three weeks of the season.
Rookie No. 5 overall pick Ja’Marr Chase had two TD catches and has at least one in each game. Fellow receiver Tee Higgins missed Week 3 and is iffy for Thursday. So are two offensive linemen and two defensive backs.
The Steelers lost their NFL-record 75 straight games with at least one sack as the Bengals posted their first sack-less game against Pittsburgh since they beat the Steelers in the 2013 Paul Brown Stadium opener.
Thursday will be the 24th all-time meeting between the two franchises, with the Jaguars holding a 13-10 series advantage. The Bengals will induct the inaugural Ring of Honor class at Paul Brown Stadium. The class of Ken Anderson, Paul Brown, Anthony Muñoz and Ken Riley will be inducted during a halftime ceremony featuring a video tribute.
