Why Bet on the New York Jets?
Misery is back on the menu for the New York Jets, who lost their fourth game of the season by way of a 27-6 beating at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers. Yet even with a 4-4 record, New York is just a game and a half behind first place in the AFC East standings.
The Jets’ chances of making the playoffs are rather slim, though, especially if the team’s offense continues to sputter. Zach Wilson went error-free and completed 33 of 49 passes for 263 yards, but he and the entire offense failed to generate a single touchdown against a mediocre Chargers defense. It also doesn’t help that stud running back Breece Hall was held to just 50 rushing yards on 16 carries (3.1 yards per carry).
On the bright side, the Jets’ defense is still playing well, ranking eighth in the league with an average of just 19.5 points allowed per game to their opponents. Reinforcements could also be on the way for their D, as standout linebacker Quincy Williams is expected to return to the field from a knee injury. It also doesn’t hurt that New York will face a Raiders offense led by a rookie backup QB who’s yet to prove himself truly. Speaking of which.
Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?
In the wake of the troubled Josh McDaniels regime, the Las Vegas Raiders rose from the ashes of their dysfunctional coaching staff and pulled away with a morale-boosting 30-6 victory over the New York Giants in Week 9. That win snapped Vegas’ two-game losing streak and at 4-5, the team is still in the hunt for a wild-card playoff spot.
Interim head coach Antonio Pierce defeated his former team, has his players’ support this past weekend, and will look to keep rolling even with their issues at quarterback. Aidan O’Connell got his first NFL victory, but his second-career start had underwhelming numbers akin to Wilson as well (16-of-25, 209 passing yards, no TDs). But alas, the Raiders finally unleashed stud back Josh Jacobs, who ran for 98 rushing yards and a pair of trips to the end zone on 26 carries.
The Raiders’ defense has been average at best, but average is still better than the porous stop units they’ve had to endure in the past. All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby has been a one-man wrecking crew all season long, with Crosby now tied for the second-most sacks this season (9.5) after sacking the Giants’ Tommy DeVito three times last weekend.
Jets vs. Raiders Betting Trends
- New York is 2-6 in their last eight road games (2-5-1 ATS).
- The Jets are 2-7 in their last nine games against AFC West teams (5-4 ATS).
- The totals went under in four of New York’s last six games on the road.
- Las Vegas is 3-3 at home this calendar year (4-2 ATS).
- The Raiders are 3-1 in their last four meetings against Gang Green (2-2 ATS).
- The totals went under in each of the last five games played in Sin City.
Jets vs. Raiders Expert Betting Predictions
There’s a possibility that the Raiders’ incumbent starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will return under center from his concussion and back issues this week. However, we’d argue that Garoppolo’s return might actually cause more harm than good considering that his nine interceptions are the most for any one QB this season. Take the Raiders if O’Connell gets the start and the Jets if Jimmy G returns to action.
