Kings vs. Pelicans 2023 NBA Odds and Preview – April 4th

By Jeff Stinger

On Tuesday night, the top Pacific Division team and current Western Conference third seed will try to make things difficult for the New Orleans Pelicans. Sacramento dropped its most recent game versus the Spurs but did win four of its last five contests before that.

Meanwhile, the Pels are blazing hot with seven wins in eight games. They can stretch their winning streak to three games following impressive wins over Western Conference leaders Denver Nuggets and the Clippers, respectively. This is going to be a good one as the Southwest Division side tries to get a tighter grip on a Play-In position, or even snatch sixth seed before the regular season ends.

Nitrobetting shares the latest news, NBA odds, and special features throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Let’s get a closer look at the upcoming Kings vs. Pelicans showdown in this preview.

Why Bet on the Sacramento Kings?

The Sacramento Kings continue to impress us with consistent results and the ability to put pressure on the best teams out there. They are the best offensive team in the league on paper, recording a league-best 121.2 points per game to go with a second-best 49.7% shooting. The No. 3 team in the Western Conference is deadly from close and mid-range, hitting 58.8% of its two-point attempts. More than that, the Kings document a pair of top-ten shooting statistics featuring 37.3% from deep and 79.3% from the line.

Malik Monk awaits a game-time decision since sustaining a lower leg injury, while Matthew Dellavedova is out until next week with a hurt finger. Even if both players sit the game out, head coach Mike Brown still gets the full potential of his leaders. De’Aaron Fox tops the roster with 25.13 points per game, while Domantas Sabonis trails him with 19.13 points and a team-best 12.44 rebounds and 7.20 assists per game.

Defense is where most of the Kings’ numbers drop. This could be an issue come playoffs, but their incredible offense can take some of that slack. As a team, Sacrament averages 118.0 points per game on 49.2% shooting. They limit opponent two-point shooting to 56.4% and three-point shooting to 37.2%.

Why Bet on the New Orleans Pelicans?

Even though Zion Williamson missed a good few games since his hamstring injury and most recently Jose Alvarado, the Pels nabbed the eighth seed and a clear shot at the Play-In Tournament. The duo of Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum have been doing the team wonders, averaging over 20 points per game, while the former Portland man leads the team in assists with 5.82 per game. Jonas Valanciunas tops the lineup in boards with 10.13 rebounds per game in 75 appearances.

Overall, New Orleans averages 114.3 points per game on 48.0% shooting. They have decent shooting figures including a 54.2% two-point and 36.4% three-point percentage. Defensively, the Pelicans do even better with a seventh-best opponent points per game average at 112.2 on 47.2% opponent shooting. The hosts also hold the league-best opponent three-point percentage rated at 33.8%.

Although the Pelicans are well within the top eight in the Western Conference standings, they’re still not out of the bushes yet. Their 40-38 record is still under pressure from the Timberwolves and the Thunder, who register a 39-40 and 38-41 win-loss record, respectively. Ultimately, this is still a must-win for New Orleans if they want to make the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs.

Kings vs. Pelicans Expert Betting Prediction

There are a few absences from both sides in this lineup, but a majority of the core squad suits up on Tuesday night. These two match quite evenly on paper, but the Pelicans get the home advantage and are the favorites on paper. The Kings are in a bit of a rut since losing their momentum with a recent loss, while the hosts look incredible in the last few games. Nevertheless, covering the spread should be doable for Sacramento as they try to close the scoreline. A win is never out of the question with these offensive juggernauts as well.
