Knicks vs. Celtics 2023 NBA Odds and Preview – January 26th

By Jeff Stinger

New York just snapped a four-game losing streak with a narrow two-point win over the Cavs in their last outing. While a clash against last year’s finalists is a tall order for a team that collapsed in their last playoff appearance, we look forward to better performances from the Knicks with an inspired lineup. The hosts, on the other hand, just scored their second consecutive loss in the wake of a nine-game win streak. They picked up back-to-back road losses and are eager to get back on track with a game in front of their home crowd.

Nitrobetting shares the latest news, NBA odds, and special features throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Let’s get a closer look at the upcoming Knicks vs. Celtics face-off in this preview.

Why Bet on the New York Knicks?

The Bulls rank fourth in the Central Division and hold the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference. Things have been tough for Billy Donovan and company since the start of the season. But, after winning three of their last four games, it looks like the side is on an upward trend before the All-Star break.

Chicago averages 114.6 points per game on 48.8% shooting. As a team, the Bulls manage to hit 36.8% of their shots from deep and hold the fifth-best free-throw shooting record at 81.5%. They have a competent unit of shooters ready to challenge the Hornets on Thursday night, including Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic. DeRozan leads the unit with 26.23 points per game, while Lavine is not far behind with 23.74 points per game. Vuvevic holds the post with 17.45 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 11.09 boards per game.

Defensively, the Bulls do present reasonable numbers holding teams off to 114.7 points per game and 47.3% shooting. They limit opponents to 55.3% two-point and 36.3% three-point shooting in 47 contests while recording 49.1 total rebounds per game.

Why Bet on the Boston Celtics?

Boston is a tough team to beat at home. They drew first blood in their meeting with the Knicks last November, and are keen to keep the momentum going with three more meetings. Marcus Smart is still out of the lineup since picking up an ankle injury. He’s expected to be out until at least the first week of February.

It’s difficult to pinpoint how the Celtics reached the peak of their performance. They are on a roll on both ends of the floor. Looking at their offense stats, the hosts are the second-highest-scoring team right now with 117.6 points per game. The team averages 47.4% shooting, featuring 56.6% from two-point and 37.1% from downtown. More than that, the Celtics are the best free-throw shooting team and hit 82.9% of their shots from the line.

Defensively, the Celtics limit teams to 112.0 points per game on 46.8% shooting. They have a solid interior defense that holds opponents to 53.0% from two points and do fairly well against long-range shots with a 35.7% opponent three-point shooting percentage. Boston also keeps the rebounding side alive with 51.6 total boards to go with a top-five league record of 5.4 blocks per game.

  • The Knicks are 3-3 in the previous six games against the Celtics (4-2 ATS).
  • The totals went over in three of the Knicks’ last five road games.
  • The Celtics are 5-0 in the last five contests (2-3 ATS).

  • The totals went under in four of the Celtics’ last five games.

Knicks vs. Celtics Expert Betting Prediction

Right when the Knicks look like their old self, they take on one of the hottest teams right now. The Celtics did pick up some strange results as of late, but they remain consistent for the most part in the East. They are menacing when playing at the TD Garden and win at home by over nine points per game. The Knicks, on the other hand, hold the tools to cover the spread and even snatch a win from the hosts. But, it’s not going to be a walk in the park for head coach Tom Thibodeau and company. They have to be in tip-top form to get the Celtics worried.
